@Zerberus:
Go right ahead with the Sig. It was actually thrown together by Rebel Chavez, who is letting it be used by anyone who likes. Here is the URL.

I think we're taking two paths to the same location, and just both worried of different pitfalls.

Trust me, I can entirely understand your worry about corporate greed destroying the charity aspect. I am confident, now more than ever, that if that were to happen, the community outcry against it would be a pretty interesting thing, considering the turnout for the thread.

Either way, I'm completely fine with us both championing our causes. If the worse thing in the world was us fighting over the best way to remember a little girl and to fight cancer, I'd be ok with the world.

I Like this Idea and support it, +1

But PGI should go sure, that the Family of Sahra would support this Idea as well. imho.

Agreed.

But I honestly thingkthat PGI would be much better off saying "sorry, we can`t / won`t / don`t want to do it" than turning it into an obvious money grab, and I don`t think they`re stupid enough to think they could go for the grab and not get burned at the stake by the community.

With as many thousands of people that have seen this and the support they have voiced, most of it being contingent on a large portion of the funds going to cancer research, they might as well put their man junk in a blender and hit puree if they do so, because the community will do exactly that. Companies have died before over less despicable actions, big ones.

I would buy it in a heart beat for the cause alone. I've many of family and friends thats dealt with cancer, and lost many of them also to it. A new Hero Jenner would be a nice idea, also a Special Skin for the Jenner, could even do some inside cockpit jobs for it. It would be something that I havnt seen another game do before, maybe draw some attention this way.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if the proceeds went to fight cancer.

To everyone ready to flop out the charge card, just remember that CryEngine gets a cut of whatever this game rakes in.

Let that sink in.

Now, do the responsible thing and put ALL the money you mentally marked off in your head to this link:

In loving memory, Sarah's family and all of us here at MechWarrior Online kindly ask that you consider donating to your local Cancer Society or visit Cancer.ca to donate today.

Use the GD link above. I've watched family members ravaged by chemo, and I think this whole topic is in the poorest taste. I say that also as a father who plays MW with a 3 yr old and 5yr old copilots whom I cherish. I can't imagine the pain those parents are enduring, and I prey that I never will. They have my deepest sympathy for their loss.

To the rest of you: Spend the energy in a way that some good will come out of it, rather than make another "livestrong" rubber band trinket. No one may ever know if you donate at the link above, but charity isn't a status symbol. I want to punch everyone I see with those damn rubber bands or pink ribbons because how many MILLIONS went to something OTHER then cancer research? A t-shirt doesn't cure cancer or pay for very expensive and agonizing treatments.

Grief and loss of another should not to be made into a visible symbol of your sympathy to the masses. Sorry, but image related:

Damn shame we lost a Mech Warrior to real life tragedy. However you are doing an incredibly insulting act asking for a Hero Mech in Sarah's name. Or at least asking the wrong thing.

If you want to truly provide in memory of Sarah. You would donate directly to her family.

If you want to donate to a foundation that could perhaps prevent future victims, You would give to
a cancer center.

If you want an ingame shrine to honor Sarah. Then ask for a small simple free in-cockpit plague with her name displayed.

It is the most realistic and tactful option. Asking for a hero mech and paying PGI for the time investment it would take to pump out a new mech variant. Means most of that money, which could be going to someone that actually is connected to Sarah directly, would be tied up in dev costs. No they will not just 'donate' it. Or 'give a portion of the profits'. That is asking them to dedicate a whole new venue stream into a separate account and it honestly has so many fair usage rights and morality issues that PGI would never put their hands on it.

No company wants the label of using a dead cancer victim as a means of generating profits. No matter how small they may be.

If PGI wants to give us a means to show our support of Sarah then a small easily created cockpit item would be the most logical. Being easy to create and small enough they would be willing to create and dispense it for free. Just for Sarah's sake. A whole mech is asking a damn lot and is more player focused reward then actual shrine to a fan of the game.

You do realize that no one BUT the charity gets a damn cent if it's been marked of for charitable donation, let that sink in a while, and I am seeing many MANY survivors, loved ones of those that have lost love ones to cancer.

I could go on, how ever there are people who would prefer me to be a touch less volcanic.

This is a must! I refuse to buy any hero mechs just to give PGI money, I haven't bought one and will not buy one until the Sarah Jenner is made and proceeds go to her family and research!

Donate to cancer research is always the go-to option. If the family gave consent, I think a statue of her with a readable plaque in the park in River City would be the most fitting "in game" memorial.

It's not a charitable donation - it's a hero mech from a for profit company that is legally required to give a fixed percentage of all revenue to the game engine company. PGI isn't the Red Cross. Your dollars are best spent with a cancer research foundation directly to get the maximum good out of each dollar.

Get as volcanic and emotional as you want. However there are far superior ways to direct your energy and resources. It seems that you are blinded by your own good intentions.

Ok I'm gonna pull some resource's for the "Set up and clauses there of, a corporate entity in the means of aiding charitable work through products and market" considering this is advice I got when I set up part of the company I ran to do charitable work:

"If you plan to include charitable contributions as a regular part of your business model, you will want to be "transparent" regarding three important issues: Identity, amount and frequency.

First, which charities are you choosing and why? Do they have a connection to your business? For example, are you giving money to programs that help artists get established or that provide arts instruction in grade schools? The closer you can tie the charity to your business purpose, the stronger and more effective it can be as a marketing tool for you.

Beyond that, the amount and frequency of the donations are up to you. However, if you promise on your website that, for example, 10 percent of each purchase will go to charity, then you want to make sure you can commit to that. If you give different amounts to different charities, it makes it more difficult to ensure good record-keeping and systematization. The same goes for frequency. You can choose how often you want to make these donations.

Generally, if a customer buys a piece of artwork and then you remit a portion of the proceeds to charity, you are the one who is entitled to the tax deduction. The customer can get the proverbial "pat on the back" for having purchased art through a socially conscious artist.

Allowing the customer to receive the tax write-off involves a more complicated arrangement, where you may need to form a separate entity for the purpose of passing through the customer's charitable donation. To do that, you will want to speak to an attorney and an accountant familiar with not-for-profit enterprises."

Now strictly speaking as a survivor and have family that have survived and died, honestly effort and complications mean NOTHING if you are determined to do what you feel is right.

I fully support the idea of a Hero Mech for Sarah, and having a portion (if not all) of the proceeds go to the charity in question.

In what way is anything you posted an efficient way to get dollars into a cancer research center? Honestly it addresses NOTHING in my post except to highlight making things more complicated for PGI and the need to lawyer up. Do what you want, but it is a waste of potential good in every way.

what ever mate, the ultimate decider is her parents consent, and PGI's good will.
I've seen too many people "waste potential" by going to terminal ward and spending time with a dying children, to NOT see that that money is all well and good going to coffers, but seeing their faces light up when you bring them something or do something for them THAT is reward beyond anything as mundane as monetary gain.

Go sit in a ward and look a child in the eye's and wish you didn't being something, anything to brighten up their lives a little besides your damn pocket book... look beyond that and see the gesture for what it is.
