I love this idea as a memorial, but I have some reservations:

I think there might be some problems with the payment structure here that need to be addressed. For instance, I still have MC from the founder's pack I bought, but I am sure that PGI has already spent that money on development. So it would be very hard for them to find extra money to put towards cancer, since they likely have already spent mine.

I think the best option (in my mind) would be for them to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society through a portion of the MWO site. Basically, you make a donation to the cancer society directly, and they send you an unlock code (be it for hero mech, paint job, cockpit item, etc).

I don't know what the costs to PGI of reskinnning a variant (with or without rearranging its hardpoints) or creating a paint job might be, but if they could find it in the budget to do the work, then all the proceeds could go directly to cancer research. I think this would be an ideal solution for allowing people to honor Sarah's memory while also doing the maximum possible good through charity. The downside is that it would mean PGI would have to take on those costs, and we honestly don't know if they are in the financial shape to take on that kind of cost. I, for one, would buy some more MC if it meant that PGI could then afford to develop some sort of memorial to Sarah.

Also, thank you to all members of the community (no matter what your opinion) who have been civil here. To you "I have the only valid opinion" types---you suck.

Hello everybody...

First i gotta say, the idea of creating a Mech for Sarah, is great.

I can follow the deepest, darkest and hopefully Mindexplorations from the Familiy, because I got Cancer too. But mine was eliminated and it was a hard Fight to win above this Cancer.

So, my best wishes go to the Family of Sarah. You will never forget her.

It is great to see, that some People care about this little Girl.

But i can't believe, that some People only think about the Kind of that Mech. In my Opinion this Mech has to be only buy by MC's... it doesn't have to be a Hero or a Champion. Only a simple Mech you can buy only by MC's!!!

And please PGI, do your best to help the Familiy and other Families by donating the Cancer Society.

From an different Angle,

RIP little Sarah

P.S.: I am from Germany and my English isn't so good to give my deepest Wishes and Hopes into this Text. Words can't describe my Feelings.

The one concern that comes up here, to me, is that it sets a precedent. In the future.. is every child of an MW:O parent lost to any cause, cancer or otherwise, going to get a mech? Precedents are dangerous things. Ours is a litigious society; I can see someone else wanting a mech honoring their child, and suing if doesn't happen.

So, having read that, I have another question:

Who is Sarah and why is she getting a 'mech?

Don't get me wrong, this is indeed a sad thing. The death of a child is always terrible. But why give her a 'mech? What about the next person who dies? Do they get a commemorative 'mech? Further, why is this, honestly, this big of a deal?

I don't want to sound like I'm uncaring, or trying to troll, but I'm a mite confused here. This whole situation is a little out of left field.

It is not so much that she gets a mech, but more of a mech to fight cancer that was started when we the community heard about her heart breaking story. It is good that you asked this question since I believe that a lot of people do not truly understand what this is or why it is happening. Yes this happens to a lot of people (too many in fact) and there will be some saying “Why can’t I have one? Sarah did.” but the truth is even though it is a Jenner made for Sarah and may possibly have her name on it (and it should since it was her name that drew a community together to ask for a tribute) it really is a tribute to all cancer victims and their families. The fact that these two posts became so popular and that there has been so much support for this poor girl and her family, is absolutely incredible. I have never seen this in any gamming community before and I doubt I will again. Even more amazing is a gaming company listening to their fans and doing what they could to support the cause does not matter what their motives are, good or bad, getting publicity or tax break whatever. They are showing that they care by listening, and they are supporting a cause that just about touches every family in this world.

I agree with FireSlade this isn't just for Sarah. It represents lots of people with cancer and shows a company cares about its players. I also feel Sarah should get props for being: A. Female Gamer B. A strong fighter and C. A 5 year old who plays MechWarrior. She is an inspiration to the rest of us that shows MechWarrior knows no bounds. Not age, not gender nor any other types of restrictions.

Now I also understand people not wanting to put her name on a "mech" so they don't have to blow it up...

So why not make her canon? Perhaps her "mech" could have a background on her pilot? Then the "mech" is associated to a pilot who can live after each match. Not named after a young girl - where the mech gets destroyed so does her image.

Lastly I wholeheartedly aprove of making this purchase MC only and will buy one ASAP as long as proceeds - at least some reasonable portion of them - are donated to a cancer charity.

I do a lot of fundraising for Breast Cancer so to see a company step up like this brings me nothing but joy. It only saddens me to know that it took the life of one of our youngest pilots to bring together this community. I am proud that we, the gamers and the company have responded in this way and I will have nothing but respect for other pilots that will join me in the purchase and use of "Sarah's Jenner".

Get'em good Sarah, where ever you may be.

Jim

I don't follow the forums too much, and I play the game even less, so I have no idea who Sarah is (other than a 5 year old who passed away) or who her parents are (community members? Devs?) but if they guarantee that the proceeds of this mech go towards cancer research then I'll purchase the mech. If even one penny of the mech goes towards the profit of the game, however, I won't.

Again, that's not my intention. But until FireSlade kindly explained everything, I didn't know jack all, and didn't really understand what I did know, and I don't happen to be someone who beats around the bush in an effort to be "tactful".

Again, her death is, indeed, very sad. Yes, a 'mech for cancer research is a very good thing (something that brings researchers more money is always good, and it's nice to have an example of a game doing real-world good), and I'll probably pick one up when I have the cash.

But, if FireSlade is indeed right about my asking tough questions being a good thing, I'm still left wondering if people would still be this up in arms if Sarah HADN'T been a five year old girl. Is she just a recently appeared focus that happens to be relevant and conveniently usable to bring attention to the issue? Or is something a little less noble going on?

When her death came up in the "Announcements" section, it hit a lot of us pretty hard. A lot of people here have lost family to cancer, or fought it themselves. A lot of people here are fathers, myself included.

It's a tragedy that hurt a lot of us, because we immediately related to it. Some remembered watching their Mother or Father waste away over years of chemo and radiation, and some just sat there, holding their daughter and crying.

Understand, every tragedy is a tragedy. Every horrible loss is a terrible thing, whether it is brought to the forefront of everyone's attention, or not.

We heard about this one. All of us, as a community, became aware of it at roughly the same time, and a lot of us wanted to do something about it. That is all that happened. We heard about this, together, and we decided to try to help, together.

There are many, many worthy causes out there, and countless families who could dearly use some consoling. I encourage everyone here to always help those in need whenever they are able to.

This was a situation, though, where we felt we could help the family and the cause. A memorial for Sarah and her family will be added to the game world, and money for a cure will flow in whenever someone purchases it, for whatever reason.

If you feel this is wrong, I'm sorry. Honestly, I truly am. It has never been my intention to worry or anger anyone with this. A lot of this support this, however, and are honestly and truly trying to do something to help. I've lost people I've cared about, and for me, anything that could possibly prevent someone else losing a loved one is good.

I appreciate your willingness to buy one of the 'mechs. Thank you.

im saying no.
a mech or bobble or colors etc. something towards cancer research in light of this event is fine with me but not a mech with her name on it.
the "sarah mech" could be used out of context in future discussions, intentionally or unintentionally. i really wouldnt want to see anyone disgrace her memory. some people may make fun of cancer all they like but i dont want to see anyone making fun of the "sarah mech"

i am willing to give a direct example but trust me its inappropriate. we have enough people making jokes up about the yen lo wang, that in it self should be enough proof.

Personally, if money is going to charity, then idiots can make fun of it as much as they like. It shows the quality of their character but has no baring on the quality of ours or on the memory of Sarah.

as long as money rolls in its ok then?? im pretty sure the parents would disagree. hell i totally disagree.
btw this mech would need the consent of their family aswell. just because the community wants a Sarah mech doesnt mean they should get one even if its for a good cause. there are plenty of other way to raise money or awareness without having to name a mech after someone.

it only takes a spark to light a fire. all it takes is one sour joke to make the entire world think this community are a bunch of low lifes, one bad joke to give grief to pgi, one wrong word to hurt alot of peoples not to mention the family. money really isnt everything.
