i see the word "meta" being constantly spammed, especially when any sort of game balance is involved.

i could look up some precise definition, but that would likely be entirely useless with respect to the word's use on these forums. i think i have found a better solution.

i am going to ask the community directly, what is your definition of meta?

Meta is the game you play before the round starts.

Meta is what you're playing when you're approaching the game to play it.

Metas the **** you're thinking about before you start playing. Meta is the **** your opponent is thinking about before he starts.

Meta is involved when you're selecting your mech for a competitive match. Metas involved when it's a 4man of entirely drunk people and they want to do something fun.

Metas what will make a grind longer or shorter.

Meta dictates what your enemies most likely use and their strategies.

Anything not meta is rogue.

Small Pulse Laser chainfiring is rogue. Taking 0 armor is rogue. Running clown car strat in the dropship on Frozen City is rogue.

Rogue is not accounted for in meta, or only very slightly taken into consideration.

Meta is ethereal. It's also very real.

Meta is brinksmanship and gamesmanship and outsmarting your opponent by getting inside their head and figuring them out before the match even begins.

Without meta, there would be no talk of 'LRMs are the best now'.

Meta can be trends. Meta can also be bucking those trends to create the new wave ****.

Meta is the game on top of the game.

Your argument isn't supported by the metagame.

If I say "your mom is meta", is that a insult or compliment?

[greeting]

[long winded rant decrying the lack of metacommunication in the thread]
[sudden crossover]
[asinine, logic defying rambling about how [weapon/equipment/build] is [under-/overpowered]]
[stream of passive aggresive insults directed at random people]

[section implying the whole text before could be skipped and substituted with the conclusion presented in this section (aka: "TL;DR:")]
