Stereotypes wouldn't exist if the people being stereotyped wouldn't consistantly, and overwhelmingly perpetuate the stereotype in the first place.

To be able to relate to RAP a person would have to be a former (or current) drug dealer, a gang member, live in a poor section of a city, and be a generally bad addition to any society.

If that is what people want to aspire to be, then the world is in big trouble.

There is a difference between wanting to have a good time, and being proud to be a criminal that wants to treat women like dirt.

I'm glad MWO doesn't give the ability to have P!MPED-OUT Mechs with 20 inch spinners, gold teeth, and a Flava Flav clock swinging from a Mech.

This thread has been quite the rollercoaster. I went from "BOO Shumabot" with his first couple of posts ITT, to "YAY Shumabot" when he defended music against the musical ignoramuses.

Honestly, guys, "rap is thug/criminal music"?

If you ever hear the words "all X is Y" (replacing X and Y with basically anything) coming out of your mouth, you need to think about what you're saying. And no, "90% of X is Y" doesn't make it any better, it just means you're aware that you're flinging stereotypes and you're trying to cover your ***.

In the end, though, I'm just sad for anyone whose ignorant stereotypes deny them from enjoying an entire genre of music. It's a shame, because despite the opinion that you have to live in poverty and be a gangster to enjoy hip hop, it's a rich art form, and there are plenty of artists creating intelligent, conscious art in the world of hip hop.

I still think the original Far Cry never really gets it proper due. For me it was the first on-line shooter that opened up the playing field and not just shooting down corridors.
