If pulse lasers all had their weight reduced to equal normal lasers, would you replace all your normal lasers?

I already use pulse lasers on several builds and enjoy them considerably.

I really don't think they need much a change.

It's not semantics at all, the fact that you can't tell the difference between a suggestion and a hypothetical used to make a point means you still don't understand what I've been saying from the beginning, and no amount of explaining it in different ways and from different posters will get you to understand.

The point was to say they are not currently balanced, because if they were then giving them a massive buff like what was hypothesized in the topic would make them obviously superior to normal lasers. As most people seem to agree it wouldn't, that means their current balance is bad. The point was never to say that we SHOULD make that change.

To put it bluntly, the argument being made is too complex for you to wrap your head around it no matter how it is phrased.

I suppose I owe an apology to mrzakalwe for telling him you did eventually come to understand, I was incorrect to say so.

I prefer Pulse Lasers over regular Lasers. Most of my builds with Lasers are Pulse Lasers. They weight more than regular Lasers AND generate more heat. That's a bit unfair. Reducing their weight might be too much (OP) but I'm all for reducing their heat generation to the amout of regular Lasers

You realize that the LPL weighs 2 tons more than the LL, right? That's a 40% increase in weight over the LL.

So it definitely wouldn't be an automatic choice there... You can use the LPL, and get a little more damage and a slightly shorter duration, but weighs 40% more.. or you could choose the LL, for less weight, but with slightly better stats.

I agree with your goal of making folks decide between weapons that do different things. I think if you made the ranges of pulse and regular lasers equal, you'd still definitely have exactly that decision, because the weigh difference is significant.

With the exception of the small pulse laser, it would be foolish not to use them in most builds if you changed the weight to their regular counterpart.

The extra heat is a non issue because the 1-2 free tons per pulse laser can now be applied toward double heat sinks. Range is an issue but that can be overcome with a slight playstyle change. In return you get significant damage increase and precision boost.

Changing the tonnage is not the right answer here. The right answer is to leave the tonange as is and bump up the damage slightly. I would increase the pulse laser damages by 1 across the board and see how that feels.

Simply up damages a bit or reduce heat a bit or both.

If they get too good they will be super energy High alpha weapons. Ac 20 weight 14 and produce quite a lot of heat if its too easy to get the same punch in energy weapons thanks to pulse lasers... It can get crazy very fast like the awesome 7 medium pulse laser... its weak because of the chasi inherent weaknesses but it hit like a truck And too brutal change will make balistic mech obsolet.

For me the only pulse lasers that are a bit weak are the large one and the small one because they don't gain much compared to their standard equivalent in weight a PPC doing its dommages instantly and producing almost the same heat and having a lot more range. Small one weighting as much as a medium laser while having a very short range and no dps Burst improvement compared to small or medium laser.
