Thought is, even if they did all that I could still do an AC 20 & 2 LB 10x.

True... though, one could just as easily do that right now with the Ilya Muromets (LBXs in the arms, AC/20 in the RT), or the VTR-9A could be implemented with one additional ballistic hardpoint to go with its Machine Gun in the LT (thus accomplishing the same thing while "avoiding the threat of massed triple-Gauss or triple AC/20 Victor builds").

What niche, then, does the VTR-9A1 fill that can't be done about as well with either certain (reasonable) implementations of the VTR-9A or with the Ilya Muromets?
And what if the remaining niches are those that the Devs, for whatever possibly-arcane reasons, mightn't want filled "yet", or "at all", or "by the Victor, rather than another 'Mech"? :)

And you'd be shooting yourself in both feet if you did. There's a good reason you don't see those already, you can't make one that's dangerous.

This was my original and still salient point - the Vic' doesn't fill a new role, it's in a role that's already way too overpopulated.

I have looked at the variants of the Victor, the hard points are almost all the same. Strictly speaking, only one variant is different from all the others.

What can we expect?

Expect it to be a HGN with higher base speed and a tad less armour.

Well, the 9A1 does fill the triple-UAC/20 role, which neither the vaunted Annihilator (due to having Lower Arm Actuators in both arms) nor the King Crab (due to having full actuator sets in both arms) cannot do.
Even other "ballistics 'Mechs" like the Pillager (due to having full actuator sets in both arms) and the Thunder Hawk (also due to having full actuator sets in both arms on its own (non-jumping) triple-Gauss variant).

And it has more spare weight (bigger engine, more armor, secondary weapons, etc) than the Ilya Muromets, and the 9A1 can do triple heavy ballistics while also being able to jump (while the Ilya isn't jump-capable at all).

Which brings us back to: "is being able to have three of any ballistic weapon currently in-game - and possibly some that aren't yet so - on an Assault-class platform that can also jump while carrying said weapons load something that PGI wants in their game in the near-term (or at all)"?

I should hope so. Then again this is all conjecture based on mech HP layouts we don't have yet. However if we get a 3+ Ballistic Assault at all I'll be content at worst and thrilled on average, depending. Plus, I turn 35 in July, right around the time the Vic's will go live, so if it should so happen to have three or more heavy guns avalaible to it that's pure gold - we're currently lacking a ballistic-oriented assault, much to my dismay.

Aw, you took my idea for when the Nova Cat eventual gets here. Yes, I expect the game to last for 9 more years, since F2P games don't die unless every server is shut down. I guess I'll switch to Mega Man colors.

Well, there's the "Victor Li" (piloted by Li Dok To, a high-ranking DCMS officer, circa 3028) that sports ten (yes, 10!) Medium Lasers all in the Right Arm (which is lacking the Lower Arm Actuator), along with a LRM-15 launcher (and a single ton of ammo) in the Left Torso.

There are also the personal 'Mechs (with generally unspecified loadouts) of...
  • MechWarrior (circa 3025; formerly Captain) Tammie Holston of the Regulan Hussars (circa 3025)
  • Lieutenant (circa 3039) Ramsey Donal of the Twelfth Vegan Rangers (circa 3039),
  • Captain (circa 3039) Debbie Malgur (whose Victor is specified as a 9A variant)
  • Ardan Sortek (who pilots a Victor until switching to a Templar OmniMech in 3065; also lent a Victor to Patrick Kell for Kell's final battle in 3027, in which the 'Mech was destroyed)
  • Victor Steiner-Davion (who pilots a Victor until being gifted a Daishi from the Wolf's Dragoons during the summit on Outreach)

Well, this is quick for a change... Maybe we have the full game content released in 5 or 7 years then

Then we must, to repeat the final words in the classic novel The Count of Monte-******, "wait and hope"...

(EDIT: Really? Why in the name of Kerensky is that censored? :))

If three ballistic hardpoint in three separate locations on a mech, all being able to fit an AC/20 isn't a solid ballistic platform to you...

It's not. I duel at 450 meters or more. Will it have the speed to engage me? No. Another zombie I will have to put down.

while it may have some speed 1 autocannon 1 srm 4 2 medium pulse lasers seems woefully underarmed for an assault...no matter how fast it is.

...maybe. Better question is, who has the MW IP at that time and do they think monkeys banging hammers on keyboards qualifies as programming?

Is it the spanish that is offensive or the religion? Time to try it out.

Jesus Allah Muhammad Christ Jehovah Jahwe Buddah Odin Vishnu Brahma and Shiva.

Anyway, if this thing can have 2 arm-mounted gauss rifles, it's probably going to be my new favourite assault mech. Maybe.

How 1 AC/20 or Gauss, 2 PPCs and 1 LRM20 are underarmed to you?
