Does that make it a High Atlas? Or an Atlander? -_-

It looks like Commando Snr :)

Hmm, think its going to be a lighter version of the HM - and a faster assault poptart..

Not really. I think everyone familiar with the lore views the Dragon as a DC mech, the Jagermech as a FedSuns mech, the Zeus as a Steiner mech, and the Raven as a Liao mech. I don't see it as subjective at all. If a mech is manufactured in only one nation, makes up a large portion of it's mechs in that nations armies and much less in other nations, than it's pretty iconic.

The thing is, people confuse iconic in the meaning of "a very peculiar, characteristic mech of a House" with popular, well know mech by the player base (like the mechs from the starter boxes). Saying that, is the Mad Cat iconic?

Well, the 9A1 does fill the triple-UAC/20 role, which neither the vaunted Annihilator (due to having Lower Arm Actuators in both arms) nor the King Crab (due to having full actuator sets in both arms) cannot do.
Even other "ballistics 'Mechs" like the Pillager (due to having full actuator sets in both arms) and the Thunder Hawk (also due to having full actuator sets in both arms on its own (non-jumping) triple-Gauss variant).

And it has more spare weight (bigger engine, more armor, secondary weapons, etc) than the Ilya Muromets, and the 9A1 can do triple heavy ballistics while also being able to jump (while the Ilya isn't jump-capable at all).

Which brings us back to: "is being able to have three of any ballistic weapon currently in-game - and possibly some that aren't yet so - on an Assault-class platform that can also jump while carrying said weapons load something that PGI wants in their game in the near-term (or at all)"?

The Victor 9A1 should look something like that:

Hansen's Roughriders Victor VTR-9A1 (with MGs in the torso instead of the legs, a more MWO-like position)

Autocannon/20 from the Centurion (slightly enlarged).

Template and machineguns (from the Catapult K2) by Ironhawk.

Painting scheme based on this.

PS: I know, it shouldn't have articulated Lower Arm...

My snarky comments about atrocious writing aside, here are my thoughts:

I think the Victor is a great 'Mech. I'm excited to check it out.

I kind of wish it had been the Zeus, but I'm not planning on checking a gift horse's teeth.

I, like some others, would really like to see a 95 ton assault chassis get announced... but this could still happen. I'm partial to the Banshee for various nostalgia reasons, but there are some other options.

If I remember correctly, some variants of the Victor were outfitted as command units with a C3 console... or at least a slave... so possibly one of the variants will be the answer for assault pilots wanting more speed and maneuverability than an Atlas, but still wanting to run a "command" 'Mech.

If you don't like JJs on your 'Mech, take 'em off! I don't run JJs on my CTF-3D.

I'm personally pretty excited to have a maneuverable assault chassis with ballistic hardpoints. Part of the reason I haven't gotten in to the assault weight class yet is how ponderous those chassis tend to be. Quick thinking and good piloting can quite often balance out armament and armor in this game.

I want my Marauder. MAD-3M is my favorite.

I love the Marauder too, but it's not going to happen. The Orion has a lot of charm in it's lopsided ugliness. It's also a nasty fighter.

LOVE Hansen's Roughriders. They're simply TOUGH, and when they go against Taurian Concordat on a war that they pretty much run themselves...I'd drop being a Draconis Combine for them. Nobody, simply NOBODY is as tough and angry as the Roughriders after the Taurian's do what they do...Other mercenaries like Wolf Dragoons are more well known, but the Roughriders...they simply bring revenge to a new level. Absolutely my favorite mercenaries.

Was looking over the Victor TRO and one thing I recall is that 80 tons is NOT a sweet spot for a mech in terms of useable weight.

First you have to run a very large engine to get 64kph in this case a 320. That is 29.5 tons for a standard and 18.5 for an XL. That doesn't leave alot of weight for weapons, jump jets, armor, heat sinks etc. From the TRO you would have 42.5 tons to accomodate all this if you run a standard engine/standard structure. Therefore only 53% of total weight available to accocate toward equipment.

If you compare this to a Highlander for example, the Highland offers 60.5 Tons for equipment at the same standard engine and structure. This is 67% of total weight available to accocate toward equipment.

Just for Giggles: Centurion offers 63% of its total weight can be allocated toward equipment.

Basically the Victor gives up 18 tons of equipment or armor for around 10 kph more speed and slight higher jumping. That is the weight of a Gauss Rifle and ammo.

If we figure 13 tons for armor which gives us 416 armor which is low for an Assault. Then probably at least 4 tons for DHS, then we will have 25.5 tons for weapons/ammo that is not alot. Endosteel ups that to 29.5 tons which is still not alot for an Assault when you consider most people will want to mount a Gauss and ammo. This leads me to believe that a XL engine will be required but with those big blocky RT/LT sections (similar to a Centurion) I am not sure it will have staying power with an XL mounted.

Also even though it should be able to theoretically attain speeds in the 75kph + range, with such a tight weight allowance, I don't see how you could mount enough armor and weapons to keep it viable at those speeds.

In conclusion I don't think the Victor will end up very popular overall. I just can't see a way your going to be able to build one without finding yourself defincient in one or more of firepower, Armor, speed or general survivability.

you do realize that if we were to get this variant and they did move the machin guns up to the torso, that would allow for duel gauss or ac20s in the torsos and dare i say... some will strip it down to fit an extra in that arm lol

Why not? If we ever get a dual (or triple) Gauss, AC/20s assault, it is a good thing that mech is only 80 tons (less weight for being overpower). Putting 3 heavy ballistics in the Victor implies small engine, no jump, no backup weapons, low armor... a lot of sacrifices. It could be fun to try, tough. :)

Because jump jets in game bear little resemblence to jump jets in lore and Table top. Seriously, 120m jump distance translates to 20m in MWO and this makes JJ more of a gimick than anything.

Now don't get me wrong, I like having JJs to help me move around the maps better but they really have limited utility and poptarting though popular isn't all that effective in most cases.

It looks fantastic, but another under-gunned eighty tonner, really? hardpoints better make the VTR interesting.

As a low-weight Assault with few weapons (fewer than the similarly weight Awesome) I hope it receives some good torso turn, arm swing, and especially module slots. module slots would be nice for what was often seen as a command mech.

^_^ /cry

I liked the idea of an assault jumping into a fight, dropping a nuke and jumping back out.. poptarting never even crossed my mind. :)

I don't think that we will se any Machine Gun armed Vici...
reason is simple... they have just 0.5tons of ammunition... a feature we don't have actual.

So the variants is B, K and S. optimized for ballistic, energy and missiles.
