Just a thought but wouldn't it be awsome if a map could be arranged in which one team has possesion of a defensible structure (walls, towers, multiple entrances) and the opposing team must storm the structure?

For a tactical game like this I think its more then appropriate and might give way to some clever strategies involving module use and perhaps a consumable that would make either task slightly more managable?

Its a very bear bones idea but I thought it could be something worth exploring.

Hmm sounds like an "assault" style game mode. Oh wait we have a game mode called that, but it is nothing like that. :)

But I agree it would be fun storming the castle. With mechs.

It should be done in the name of science.

This sounds like http://mwomercs.com/...ttlemode-siege/ . Have a look at this link and let us know if it fits into your vision for Base defence mode.

It is very much so. What I love about this game is the methodical winning over the twitchy. Someone holding back and thinking dominating someone who just atempts to run and gun and where preplanning and team dynamic are essential. So a mode in which a seige like you suggestion would be amazing. This suggestion has my vote!

We have that, but no one ever wants to defend :).

The conquest mode is too open. as are all the maps. I would like to see a mode with dark corners, high towers, places you can hide and ambush and areas that would cover you from missle fires totally but leave you bunkered and vunerable to direct concentraited fire.

How about a assault on a Castle Brian? A full sized castle is beyond the scale of MWO but a small mini castle or outpost castle might work at the 12 player level if it wasn't fully functional.

Its a good idea. Perhaps a battle worn castle with a few gaps in the defenses. We need to give the opposing team a few advantages against a bulwark of defenders.

Thats what I was thinking, the Castle has just been rediscovered after being abandoned after the fall of the Star league. The defenders are trying to get it functional but only managed to get some of the defensive bunkers operational when the attackers arrive.

The attackers have to capture and/or destroy the bunkers and then capture a large underground hanger before the timer runs outs. If the timer does run out the rest of the defenses come online and overwhelm the attackers. To make sure it doesn't turn into pure deathmatch this game mode should include dropship/lobby mode by default.

Back in mechcommander you could capture turrets, gates etc, that would be interesting too see in mwo.

In hawken which I belive is the direct competitor to mechwarrior right now they have a mode in which you set up a battleship and send it to accost the enemies base. Perhaps we could tweak a base defense mode to allow the attacking group a large piece of artillery or something along those lines that the defending team would have to disable while protecting there base. It would give the defenders more to worry about and a reason to leave there shelled position and the artillery could in and of itself win the game if fired too many times on the base (the weapon would have a slow reload time of coarse).

What about defending a Dropship that could actually take damage?

That might work but then mechs would have to be able to be positioned on top of the vehicle aswell and Im not sure how one would go about that.

Maybe the dropship is under repair (which would explain why it's not firing at the attacking mechs) and there could be scaffolding above it. That could give the defenders a raised firing platform.
