So, what's going to happen to all those 'clan' units when community warfare starts and the clans roll in?

I mean, PGI isn't going to say "You're from the 21st Star Clan Squabbling Armadillo? Have a Timberwolf...". Is it mean to let them get their hopes up only to have them dashed by every man and his dog buying a Hero Vulture or something?

Thoughts? Is there an existing post on this?

OP, until we see how CW is going to be implemented, no one has any real idea how clan oriented units will be involved in the game (if at all, officially). That being said, many believe they'll essentially work just like the Houses in that you're a Merc unit aligned/not aligned with a specific Clan or you're falling in directly under the Clan just like you would a house.

Canon names will be controlled by PGI, so we'll all be calling ourselves some Galaxy/Cluster etc within the Clan or we'll be some form of Merc unit that's not quite canon.

Ultimately, I am doubtful that they split the availability of Mechs. Mechs will likely be aligned with Houses/Clans, thereby earning a purchaser discounts of somekind for the Mechs historically aligned with their Houses, but cross pollination will still occur I wager. Mechs, especially Clan Mechs if/when they emerge will provide a huge shot in the arm for them money-wise, so restricting them to ONLY players aligned with Clans would be a mistake for them from a purely economic stand-point.

Whether that's less immersive or not is a valid argument of course, but let's be honest...PGI isn't making decisions of that nature based on immersiveness or TT canon. They are trying to make money. If they're willing to introduce things like 3PV and coolant flushes to expand the casual player base, the same will happen with Clantech. Puretech advocates are likely to be upset when the Clans emerge.

I think it would be silly to not let spheroids use clan mechs... However, I wouldn't be surprised if the mech themselves are pure tech.

How would you sell a mad dog (vulture) if I can just use clan weapons on my catapult.

Also, coolant flush was mentioned in the novels... No mention of 3rd person view though...

Also;

Oh I agree that an omnimech system will probably make it so crossteching components either does not happen or very limited. I meant they are not likely to restrict clan tech to clanners.

Coolants pods in the lore were physical items that took space and tonnage and were destructible. Additionally, my point wasnt that they didnt ever exist...my point was PGI categorically stated flush would never be in the game, catering to puristz....then they completely changed their minds AND monetized the feature. They went broader appeal, more bucks. I expect that trend to continue when it comes to Clan stuff ingame.

To be honest, I don't quite follow your line of thought - how does everyone buying a hero Mad Dog affect Clan units?
