Can you guys spend $250,000 to balance your game?

edit: by the way, hope the skyboxes arent final, because I can see the pixels of the planets and moons in the sky.

Give us an SDK and modders will make higher quality maps for free, so you can focus on more important things. Like making the game balanced.

It costs four hundred thousand dollars to develop this map for twelve seconds.

It's almost as if you've never read any of PGIs comments on why they're not using user created maps.

It's almost like they're clearly lying to us, because it doesn't cost $250,000 to make a map that has that low of a resolution skybox and invisible walls that block your fire around every object and bit of terrain

Exactly, the best map designers aren't working in the industry, they hang out in game forums and do their work for free. Well actually the same for all aspects of game design if you read the forums. Best ideas always found here.

You're exaggerating what I'm saying. If players could make maps, they would. And they wouldn't charge for them because they couldn't. The quality on most of MWOs maps are iffy at best. Canyon is one of the first maps in a while that I think actually stands out in a positive light, except terribly lo-res skybox, which ruins the maps good looks.

They don't like random player maps? Have a map making contest. They can take their 5 favorite maps, test them out and then release what ones they like after extensive playtesting.

I agree with OP...there has got to be some streamlining or diffferent design so that maps can be put out faster than one a month (or 7 weeks in the case of Tourmaline to Canyon Networks). The upping the % chance of playing on the new map, just causes burn out on that map quicker and then you start to see the comments that sick of said map. Fundamentally, something needs to change. Heck, even just different spawns would breathe life into existing maps. The spawns are already there for Conquest (not a fan btw), so randomly spawn at one of these other locations. Battles will be different...

So how much time, effort and money would be spent to get a map made by an amateur? Why not do this for game mechanics? I mean we get lots of ideas for balancing weapons and such by the same talented individuals, who apparently can't find work in the industry. Lets have people vote on which forum fix for the game we should use. I mean there are issues in other areas besides maps, why not tap this valuable resource of gaming brilliance? I mean some folks can apparently fix the game with just a few lines of code changed or can come up with a solo only queue no problem.

If you're going to play the total sarcasm card then agree with me on this.
If they're spending a quarter of a million dollars on a map, they can make a god.damned skybox that fits, and looks nice.

or acceptable: publicly acknowledge they're going to go back into all of the old maps and make them look nicer and fix the invisible walls that surround almost every piece of terrain and object

Because there are people out there who can do the quality of work PGI does with their maps. And they'll do it for free. You can be as sarcastic as you'd like, but when a playerbase gets access to an SDK there are people who will take the time and make really well done* things (like maps).

So again why limit it to maps? Why not have players, who despite not actually working in the industry, can do better work than professionals? I say let them design every part of the game. I mean I hear on the forums that people already have figured out all the problems and the devs are just too dense to listen?
Seems wrong to limit this great untapped resource to just map making no?

They really need to strongly consider the idea... people are more than willing to create maps for free, it's more of a distribution/testing issue that has to be addressed in addition to quality control.

Frankly, pushing people away is cheaper and requires little effort at this point.

Again, you're exaggerating my claims with sarcasm.
Something like this wouldn't be "Hey PGI get the **** out of the way, the community has it from here"
It would go something like "Hey PGI, check out this King Crab I made, I think it's pretty neat. Won't you take a look?"

The problem is that we never know what PGI is doing because they don't tell us. They don't throw their ideas out there for their beta testers to hear. Whats the point of being in a beta test when the devs dont listen to our feedback? Or better, acknowledge that they've read it and disagree.
