Who's willing to pilot something other than an Assault mech?

Without having played the game, and sticking with what's already implemented in-game... there's a certain body shape that attracts me to use them, regardless of weight class. This "bird of prey" look, a cockpit with back-bent legs, THAT'S what Battletech needs more of. Sure the Timber Wolf on the cover of Mechwarrior 2 was what attracted me to Battletech in the first place, but I always imagined it looking better without those arms. I just want to avoid a bunch of the humanoid 'mechs, which dominates the medium class right now. The Commando looks OK, I'll admit, but I really want more like this:
<HHHH .
<HHHH .
. . G## . .
. . / . . / . .
. . ) . . ) .
=+ . .=+
Something like that; just a pointed dome with a pair of legs and some weapons. That includes the Catapult, the Stalker, and I've got my eye on the Raven as well...

Also, I just want to make sure I understand; you are using the Assault 'mechs correctly, aren't you? From a purely selfish perspective, Assaults seem like a bad choice. They're slow, and while tough as hell they still can't survive volley after volley hitting them from targets they can't hit back in time. The idea is to have a team to back you up and lead targets into your line of fire while also keeping enemies off your six.
Besides, from what I've seen an Assault makes great bait. They're so obvious and tall, but also well-armoured so they can survive being a target for quite a while longer than the other 'mech types. People are so keen on taking one down (especially the Atlas) and claiming another big kill that they don't notice the rest of the team moving into position around them. Next thing you know, Assault (and his mates) have claimed enough of the enemy to make up for the repair costs twice over.

So far I prefer the Dragons and Centurions over anything else I've ran, including Atlas and Stalkers. The light mechs are just not right for me and I like the Hunchback, but not as comfortable as a Cent. Cataphracts, and Cats both the same way as the Hunch.

I consider "Beta" as being the period where I familiarize with all mech types - They all demand different skills and tactics, and to know them all will be an advantage.

Give me my AWolf and I will shredd any mech to pieces....well, a 7-gun NovaCat could be a bit more difficult, though.
I love medium mechs...engage and evade. ninjastyle !!!
Unfortunately the meds currently ingame are buttugly and except for the 4SP designwise inferiour to other chassis.
