The Ppc Poptart Meta Hasn't Changed

People just take 6-7 Poptarts and defend their base in 8. It takes zero skill to hit someone in one spot with 2xPPC & a Gauss.
You have eliminated the tools people could use to close distrance and brawl. With LRM arcs still a lot steeper less cover works to shield you. New sensors make it impossible to use corners, walls, and other features to close distance. SRM's aren't worth carrying compared to heat sinks to cool the PPC's.
All of this has lead to an 8 man game thats frankley not fun!!! Stall and turtle at your base waiting for people to close in because in current meta that'll get you killed. Have your light(s), whose role has been nearly eliminated by state rewind, scout for the LRM boat that's usually along with the 6 Poptarts at base.
It's a waiting game, oh joy!!! SO much freaking fun!!! *sarcasm*
Suggestions: nerf PPC's/ERPPC's and buff SRM's! Everyone has jump jets and you may have not included that into your balancing equation.
I lead a bi-weekly 8 man and I'm not the only one VERY tired of the meta!!!
Keep us playing please!!! If all you go up against is team poptart/raven, this game isn't worth playing!

Jumpsniping is a valid tactic!

Hopefully JJ only shake when holding down space and not when free falling
JJ shake will scale based on how heavy the mech is

Question for you then. What if the combat drop was defend/capture/destroy and your team were the aggressors and the other side were the defenders? How would YOU approach the drop, really? Turn it around and your team were the defenders, then what?

"It takes zero skill to hit someone in one spot with 2xPPC & a Gauss."
"It takes zero skill to use LRMs."
"It takes zero skill to use a Splat/ StreakCat."
"It takes zero skill to use AC40."
... I guess MWO is not a game that needs much skill then...

Nah then everyone will just drive what 25% of people already drive - PPC stalkers.

It actually isn't. The only real skill is the ability to use teamwork and focus fire. PPC/Gauss makes that so easy it takes the skill out of that too. Brawlers have to be more coordinated by avoiding enemy fire on the way in and avoiding moving in one by one and getting picked off.

2 lights with improved UAV
4 stalkers filled to the brim with LRMs
2 stalker PPC boats
Lights move in to deploy UAVs for LRM spotting
2 PPC boats cover for the lights counter sniping poptarts
LRM boats do what's obvious.
Make one kill then turtle your own base.

I do turn it around and it makes me physically ill. the best tactic is to wait them out and force their range advantage out by huddling around a defendable angle. This is not the fun game that I signed up for! Brawling, light packing, is phased out and I hate it!!!!

Every one of those builds has been OP at one time or another. Stacking them together doesn't produce the same effect of stacking PPC Poptarts. Go play the 8 man game and see. Then come back and post!

Soy you are part of the problem if memory serves(team Poptart/Raven) from the last time I dropped against your 8 man team!

I'm open to hearing what you think counters it currently. All I can see is having the same BS and being more patient(terrible freaking unfun game!!!). Closing without getting killed is a low percentage affair these days!!!

I don't mind the calls for poptarting balance. Anyone who wants to claim that poptarting is balanced as it currently stands is clearly not thinking straight.
But the embarrassing thing is seeing all these people who are shouting for 'balance' when all it really is, is a bunch of people who can't adapt, and prefer to cry about it in the forums rather than reflect on their own skills.
Engaging in all out brawls and grinding each other to dust, then having a round robin, happyslappy circlejerk of ggs is not 'skill'. Nor is it fun to those of us who actually enjoy a challenge.
Grinding the inflexible, the blinkered, the entitled into the dust, then laughing about their bitter tears? That's a little fun.
But having an 8v8 where the end round screen shows 14 Highlanders, then realising you were on the better team because you won by adapting to the meta and leveraging your skills? That's REAL fun.
Winners gonna win, QQers gonna QQ. No matter what the FOTM is.

Skills aside, the game has become horribly un-fun. I regularly win matches while playing against poptarts but you can't deny that seeing 3+ poptarts per pug match is just as infuriating as seeing the same amount of Splats when those were popular (this is assuming you didn't pilot those but judging by your elitist responses it seems like you probably were a Splatter and are currently a poptart). It's all horrible abuse of the current heat mechanics and the way JJs work. It's a very low point when I see a Muromets building 3ERPPCs and 1 Gauss. Something must be wrong here. This Alpha-only metagame has almost completely destroyed people's desire to play and it needs to be addressed. It isn't about "Oh, no. X-strategy beat me, time to go on the forums and complain," It's about identifying the aspects of the game/meta that are anti-fun and fixing them. Currently, Alpha-only builds are the FOTM because they have very few effective counters and almost no downsides. Poptarts are just the same except with JJs. Jump sniping gives you a HUGE advantage over other Alpha builds because you can utilize a huge amount of cover by just simply peeking over it for enough time to get a Gauss + 3PPC Alpha off, then sit and wait for JJs to recharge also giving your heat time to dissipate, then repeat the same process until someone decided to be a hero and charge you which in most cases only halts your jump sniping for a few seconds while you dispatch the aggressor with a quick, easy, and practically skill-free double-tap with your full alpha. If you have effective counters in mind, then why not share them? Why not make them public so you can help end this horrid abuse of alpha-only builds?

2. The fix to high alpha dominance is improving incentives for taking balanced builds. Not trying to break a legitimate gameplay mechanic. Some mechs are all out brawlers. Others are hit and runners. Killing variety kills the game, as you said. Your solution however kills it from the other direction.
3. The counter is simple. Spend more time in game, less time on forums, and become better at whatever is beating you.
After all:
