It sounds like it might work out this way to some extent, but on the plus side it certainly looks like they're doing a lot to make sure smaller/lighter 'Mechs have a truly viable role to play in any fight - moreso than a lower-tier tank in a high-tier WoT match.

I hope so, cause lesser tier tanks are garbage. Given 3 vs 3 sherman / T20....the shermans will lose by a large margin even if all six guys were even skilled. When a sherman tops out at 460 hitpoints, a single T20 tops out at 1300, and that the T20 has 3x the HP of a sherman...the T20s will own the shermans fast and my guess would be that a single T20 loses maybe half health. Yeah, since a lower hitpoint count does not equal to what a higher tier tank can bring to the table, the lesser tier tanks are garbage even if both sides are equally skilled or if the highe tier were going to newb out...extra safety buffer helps out before the lesser tier is destroyed.

As long as the "Premium" mechs arent just stupidly better then the "normal" mechs i am really fine (I dotn care if they earn 50% or what it was) more. My only concern is we dont get a WoT style Type 59 bullshit

Its because the WG developers are greedy idiots. Lowe...high pen gun and thats all you really need to get credits...they raise the price yet the KV-5 hasn't changed in the year it is available because its more of a novelty (greed in the case of the lowe). Type 59 and the Hochtkis tier 3 tank...removed because its somehow breaking the game in but it couldn't be that one has super high speed, a high pen gun, thick frontal armor, and the other just has a high pen gun that rips up lowbie tank (idiots in this case).

WG doesn't have a clue how to balance their game, only an idea how to get the most money with a low quality product that people throw out massive quanities of cash for. Still haven't introduced more public match types that could seperate the mid tier tanks from the top tiers, a tier 5 is still crap everytime it comes up against a tier 7/8/9 and a tier 6 is worse when facing over 2000 hitpoint heavies when it only has 800. I love the mid tier tanks, but despise playing 75% of my matches up against tier 7/8 all day where I am quickly destroyed and have to wait until the match ends play a particular tank again.

We're not selling better weapons for real money.

I hope you guys stick to that. The Devs of STO said the same thing, but now their store is full of the stuff.

But I have faith in you lot, you seem much more competent than the STO Devs.

Ammo packs?

I would be very surprised if there are not items that give small perks, there has to be. Every game has something to give an ability that is not available elsewhere. Might not be a big advanced but something to help people create a unique build for specific type of play that results in the player being better.

I'd guess the following:
  • Mechs/Variants (discussed in the Mechlab walkthrough)
  • Mech Skins
  • XP/CBill Multipliers
The one slight issue with being able to purchase mechs for cash is that it means you can indirectly purchase weapons. I was really hoping that they would make it more like League of Legends so weapons could not be purchased directly from the store. Instead they should only be obtained in salvage imo.

There is no salvage in the game... Already mentioned in one of the Dev comments.

Well, STO still does not sell better weapons for cash. Ships with better weapons, yeah ... but then again you can't pull those weapons off.

Also, remember that when they said that STO was still subscription based, and not F2P.

By the way, i was looking at the Mechlab video. Where did you guys see weapons being sold for MC?

I plan on buying the elite founder's package, because I want the founder's mech, early access, and just want to support future MechWarrior development. However I have no idea how I'll spend any of that in-game cash.

What do you expect to be able to spend money on, given that the devs have explicitly stated that you will not be able to buy anything with an in game effect that could not also be purchased by someone who was grinding for cbills?
  • We already know you can buy mech chassis.
  • I would assume you could buy actual mech components as well
  • Given that the mechlab demo video shows a limited number of hangar slots, I would bet you can buy additional hangar slots as well
  • Visual customization of mechs (fancy paint jobs, decals, etc). Some might even be "cash only"
What else do you expect to be available that would NOT be considered "pay to win"?

It will probably be along the lines of other F2P games. For example in World of Tanks Gold buys the following:

Premium memberships which gives you more XP,coins and tech points during battles.
Transfer tech points that you get from fully explored tech trees to a free pool of tech points you can spend anywhere.
Allows you to purchase extra garage slots
Allows you to purchase 100% trained crews for your tanks (this makes a huge difference as a new tank crew is only at 50%)
It also allow you to buy special ammo and some better tanks that are good coin makers.
And lately it allows you to customize your tanks with cammo

Uhm, yes you can. In fact, all the P2W consoles are universal now, they can go on any T5 ship at all.

I hope that there are at least some mech varients that are only available with apropriate faction unlock. Wouldn't be fun to just buy every mech and all of their varients right out the gate. Just saying.

Yeah...don't hold your breath.
But faction choice has been said to impact the price of every given chassis. So the Catapult K2 you have your eyes on will be a lot cheaper if you are fighting for Kurita than it will be in Marik space.

Hurm...I thought I saw something but that may have just been for the mechs and being able to buy them for cash. Looks like the weapons are not purchasable for MC...at least in that iteration of the mechlab.

I mean the special consoles that come with the P2W ships. The Dreadnought cannon, the Dreadnought cloak, the Prometheus MVAM console, etc.

You can't pull these off and use on another ship.

As long as whatever you can buy in the store doesn't vastly improve your odds of winning or at any point in time go "vintage" I think I can live.

Also if there were emotes I could get for my Mech like in Maplestory, I'd probably buy all of them.

As silly as it may sound I'd also like to see purely cosmetic add-ons to your 'mech.Custom Skins/Paintjobs, Company/Unit/House Logos, A loudspeaker (For broadcasting very loud, very obnoxious music to your enemies and insulting everyone without using com-channels), Brush Guards (To help push those pesky trees out of the way and help prevent damage to you paint job), Light Bars (Like what on top of a cop car, might serve as a good distraction). Ok, ok.. the last 3 are silly.. but would be good for amusement factor, and by reading the books I've heard of mechwarriors' doing stranger things to their mechs.

Just do me one, one, only one small favor. Please do NOT base your economy or cbill rewards on WoT. Those damned russians have ruined the 'fun' of playing any of the higher tier tanks. I cringe every time i see a comparison between MWO and WoT. Please don't do that to us........ please..........

I'd like to upgrade the Dropship (class). Gives more hangars/cargo space.
Most guys may be content with a cute Leopard, but it's a far cry from this baby right here -> behold the Behemoth

Just class, no really, that is an upper class mech.

I'm assuming there will be pink fluffy dice for hanging in side the cockpit?

A bit of air freshner too maybe, all that sweat and having to urinate in a bottle can make a cockpit smelly.

Actually, you know what I'd pay for?
Items that give slight combat assists that don't translate into advantages. A bit of an oxymoron, but let me give you an example:

Let's say you've got a weapon with 200m range. Because of the varying size of the mechs, it's very hard to eyeball exactly what 200m is in the envrionment. So let's say if you pay $3, your targeting retricle comes with a pair of counters unerneath it- first, the range of your currently selected weapon (if it's a weapon group, then it picks the lowest range in that group) and the range of whatever the crosshairs are currently hovering over- be it a rock, a tree, or an enemy mech. It's not exactly an advantage over an opponent, it's more like training wheels. It makes learning your mech faster and easier, but it doesn't make you better at combat overall.

Yes, I could see that being a fair use of real money. Besides, maybe some mechs could come with this by default, like the Raven (due to its advanced information systems). Paying woud just extend this tool to the other mechs.

tl;dr- training wheels. I expect to see training wheels.
