Which atlas and why. I'm gunna buy me a new assault mech

Right now? I'm having the most fun in the moment using my RS. 3PPC gauss with a 350 std works very well at the moment, and I also like using 4LL gauss.

Eventually you will want to master them I'm assuming, so next I'd go DDC and then D (the K is just an expensive way to get a 300XL, which you probably shouldn't be using anyway in the interest of self preservation in an atlas). Hopefully by the time you save up enough for the DDC we'll have the SRM damage patch out. At the moment it's a little weakened by the loss of one of its main brawling weapons.

problem is i already have 9.5 mil Cbills and its burning a hole in my pocket. i want nowwwww. what will the srm patch look like?

To quote someone else that I agree fully with:

"DDC all the way. The ECM is beast. Its a great mid-long range mech. Great with LRMS, Gauss, PPC, and all sorts. I run an RS with quad LL and a gauss, but its second only to my DDC as far as my favorite mech."

Massive ECM nerf already; who cares about the DDC anymore? Missile boaters? Gotta love that reduced lock on time then, huh. o_O

DC all the way. ECM gives you LRM protection like a K but for less tonnage than dual AMS and you still get lots of hardpoints. You can also disrupt enemy ECM, and pugs will tend to follow you to benefit from the cover instead of running off and leaving you behind.
RS is also well worth having though, arms with 4LL will massacre unwary lights.

With 9.5 million, you cannot get any Atlas except an unmodified RS.
You also have to consider the added cost of modifying.
I suggest using something like smurfy's site to build what you want then see the C-Bills it will cost you.
My Awesomes when modified cost over 10-11 million and those are just the 8 series, 9M or PB cost more modified.
Imagine the cost of a modified Atlas, you need MORE C-Bills or MC for the initial Mech.
If that is a problem, look into getting a Highlander or Stalker.

Ummmm, like I said... get the RS! As mentioned above though, be sure to include the mandatory double heat sink upgrade (and possibly endo steel). Plenty of good designs without SRMs on this guy.
