Well, you can't fault people for wanting to play Heavies and Assaults. Look at the environment that we play in - everything is heavy alphas. So, if you assume that you're going to be on the other end of a 40+ alpha, you've got to make the decision of whether you're a good enough pilot to avoid it OR go in the other direction and take a mech that has enough armor to be able to survive it. The kicker on the latter option (ie, the bigger mech) is that it, too, allows you to take a massive alpha loadout which means that you are now contributing to the same problem that you're trying to survive. Its akin to a dog chasing his tail. None of this will change until either heat is altered, hard points are limited, or a combination of the two. I'm all for creativity in mech design but, for the health and long term survivability of the game, something needs to be done to curtail the current game direction.

I can only agree.

I pilot Cent's, I love the 'mech, but as it stands sometimes i can't help but feel as if I would do better in a highlander with ppc's. Which kind of makes me feel bad, I don't want to let my teams down, I want to be a team player, however I do not wish to do the current meta, I don't enjoy it, but the power gamer in me feels like it needs to be done.

I do however understand the people who enjoy the current meta, It is very effective, people can walk out with a lot of kills and wins. It is a tough thing to balance, lots of things to consider.

So my apologies to anyone I happen to drop with in my Cent's, I shall try my best to carry my weight, even if it is only 50 tons worth.

There were far fewer assaults when they had R&R. It needs to be brought back.

RnR was also only in the game when it was new, and everyone was poor. We didn't have players with garages of 60 mechs and all the assaults. It's too late for RnR

Why?

There is no reason why torso mounted weapons cant be on gimbles. Sure, aiming 5 feet in front of you is a bit off, but it only needs 10-15 degrees to make almost any of the shots.

The reason why is if all weapons mounted everywhere on any mech always converge on the same location then any target mech is ultimatley only as resilient as it's CT (or head if you are a crack shot)

And ultimatley because of this the "best" mech is the one with more CT armor and more "alpha" A.K.A. assault mechs.

The only reason MWo has seperate body sections with discreet armor values for each section is because the table top game had this feature.

Yet oddly all the mechwarrior video games adopted this hit location/armor values per section mechanic but failed to also take the random hit location system that balanced this mechanic for a table top game.

Now I think a random hit location system applied to a video game format like we have here is a crap idea so I won't even suggest it.

I am however suggesting that maybe the armor values and distinct body locations mechanic may need to be looked at to fit in with all the advances we have made in PC/online gaming and hardware.

My CN9-D got one shotted by a Cataphract. 4 PPCs to the RT cored out my XL engine in one shot.

Because of this thread I've been playing my Treb more often lately. 1 LBX10, 1 SRM 4, 2 SLas. The problem was my speed, and how quickly I'd reach the front before my allies. By learning to pace myself, protect Assults from lights, and basically let the enemy team be the "impatient" ones... I've raised my avg kills per match by 2, and damage has gone up from the 150s to 350s.
