Sadly, my true thoughts on the clans are'nt an option on the poll.

They are bunch of arrogant, and backward fools that live under a repressive and frankly stupid caste-system. Their so-called "Warriors" are nothing more than gladiators that fail miserably in actual combat-situations, and make up for their lack of skill with mediocre technology. Their ridiculous society puts the most stubborn and pig-head idiots in leadership positions that they lack the skill, wit, and intelligence to succeed in.

It's simple. The Clans are exactly what their name implies. Glorified barbarian tribes destined to be a historical footnote. I pity the "Lower Castes" that have suffered for generations under the Clan's caste system. I have no pity for the brutes that the Clan's call "Warriors".

To any Clanners: Your very way of life and existence are stains on Aleksandr Kerensky's name and memory. May you die in nameless shame.

Death to the Clans!

In all seriousness, I have no issue with the Clan's as a part of the Battletech universe, but I stand by my assessment of them.

why? Caste System is predicated on your standing at birth, who were your parents?
- oh they were merchants, well you shall be one too!
-oh they were trueborn warriors, here's the keys of potential!

Actually, a number of clans allows the freebirth to be reassigned to a caste that is better suited to them.

In all fairness to the Clans, they started as a meritocracy. The initial genestocks from which Trueborns were created were all (watch out, heresy coming!) Freeborn Star League guys. The problem came when the Trueborns got so convinced of their own superiority that they started inadvertently insulting both Kerenskies on a regular basis. That's right, they were both Freebirths, a group considered lower than the low by Trueborn Clan warriors.
I say again, the Clans are not what the Kerenskies had in mind. They are interesting opponents though.

absolutely correct, which is supposed to be a tragic flow in their canon which no clan player really admits to.

On paper its a nice thought, in practice there is genetic profiling abound in clan society and your worth is judged at higher ranks of society on your genes.

I tend to think of the clans as the "Modern Military" of the BT series. Since the constent battling in the Innersphere for decades, they've succeeded in producing a truly modern type of mechs esp. the Omni-mechs. With modular systems with quick fix repair and integrated/shared parts this is like today's military way of thinking.

Eugenicists, and therefore among the baddest bad guys. But they also live by a code of honor, so they're prohibited from using smart tactics. Okay, so what are they called? Clan Wolf? Clan Shadow Jaguar? Oh. Well, they had me scared for a moment.

Idiots that got beaten by vastly inferior forces by refusing to adapt their tactics.

He was miffed at words being put into his mouth re the Clans not being a meritocracy.

Which they aren't, BTW. It was amazing to me that as their mechs got more flexible the Clan mindset solidified.

I like to think of the Clans as militant test-tube babies on steroids. And I'm sure glad their not the CapCon's problem.... yet.

keep coughing, notice how the clans could never support each other? Clan Wolf wins at Tukkayyid, but the Clans lost the war
pulling defeat from the jaws of victory on that one. In the darkest hour of the Inner Sphere, alliances were forged that bridged
centuries of divide...the Clans couldnt even cooperate as an invasion force, depressing.

Are the Clans a meritocracy?

"...Nicholas hated the corruption and favoritism endemic to feudalism. He wanted a society based on merit and ability rather than parentage. It is ironic that his descendents reversed his intentions, espousing the superiority of select bloodlines."

- Page 9, "The Clans, Warriors Of kerensky", FASA, 1999(?)

In MWO, the Clans will provide a parallel set of technology and increase the dynamism of the game.

"We are Clan Wolf, children of Kerensky. We carry the Honor of his name on our shoulders, as our fathers did in the foward. The Rememberance speaks to us of the Evil in Man's will, of the reasons for Exodus, and the Rights of the Traveller. Arcadia is our Destiny and our Right. Enlightenment is our Gift. By the Bloodnames of our Founders we must return, return and protect what is unique among the Stars. Terra awaits us as it was Written. We are the last of the Wardens. The sole Hope for Earth."
You are screwed without us, Inner Sphere Barbarians.

Remind me, was it all of 20 years after the exodus that Kerensky had to deal with a major civil war?
