So I was looking at possibly buying a camo pattern finally, never really paid attention to them until now. I noticed that if you permanently unlock a pattern it specifies the variant. However, at the bottom of the screen where you select to save and purchase the pattern it DOESN'T specify the variant.

The question I have is if I'm on my Cataphract does unlocking the pattern only unlock it for my cataphracts like I think it does? Meaning I can't use that pattern on my other variants that aren't cataphracts? If I want to apply the same pattern to another variant do I have to re-purchase that pattern specifically for my mechs that aren't?

I can't see that as being the case. If you just have 1 of each cataphract chassis and buy single use camo pattern for each you could apply the pattern to all 4 non hero chassis for a total of 500 mc and it wouldn't really be worth permanently unlocking the patterns for 1250...

I just want to clarify what the permanent patterns can be applied to* if I purchase one. Sorry if I'm over thinking this, and thanks for the help.

A single unlock is for that specific mech.
A permanent unlock is for the entire chassis, and all variants of that chassis.

Note: You will not unlock it for any other chassis without buying it for said chassis. So if you get a perm unlock for a Hunchback, you won't have it for the Centurion, but you'll have it for all 5 hunchbacks.

Paint works differently. If you buy a paint, it's unlocked for everything.

A further thing to note: If you do not have your own paints (i.e. basic green only), selecting a Premium Camo will cause it to select associated paints, which tally up to an insane amount. Just choose whatever paint you want instead before buying. You do not have to buy phranken paint to have the phranken camo, for example.

See that's what my concern was. It wouldn't be so bad if I could at least use the permanent pattern on all the the variants in a weight class at least. In other words unlocking one permanent pattern while on my Cataphract would unlock that pattern for all the other heavies. That would be way more reasonable. Under these circumstances, it just seems insane to me to spend 1250MC on patterns. Guess I'll just purchase a single use pattern for now and wait to see what crops up during sales :)

Wait for a sale.

Personally I snag low-cost patterns on impulse or during sales. I don't go for the big fancy ones; but when I do I get the single use.

For example: This was an impulse camo.

But many of them were only 375 for perm unlocks.

Yeah 375's not bad. I just ended up getting the single use Cobra pattern since it applies the default colors without actually having to shell out for premium paints.

Not bad. Remember there's cbill paints, too. They're not fantastic, but some combos do look awesome.

Yeah I've been rocking the Optimus Prime look for awhile, just wanted something snazzier and didn't want to just make a snap purchase without knowing for sure what I was getting.
