I looked around a bit and couldn't find anything quite like this anywhere. Those of you who know me know I don't usually post suggestions, but I think this would be cool, logical, and could help with the problem of Seismic being slightly OP.
So, Seismic reads vibrations that don't come from your own mech. I'm ok with that, it makes sense that you could nullify your own movements with your gyro or with programming or whatever.
But what about when your mech is undergoing vibrations that are not normally accounted for?
In short:
Weapons that cause cockpit shake will disrupt Seismic for the duration of the shake, or some other limited time.
Missiles and Ballistics now to do Seismic what PPCs do to ECM.
I think it makes sense and could be a balancing aid.
What do you guys think?

Large mechs should be detected at a longer distance while small mechs are much harder to detect
I propose
Non calibrated, basic, hard to read sensor
X2 weight mech meters
Upgraded, Calibrated, learned to read sensor
X3 weight mech meters
Mech using some module/device to reduce foot impact
-X1 -10units of engine power/speed
I like the idea that the sismetic sensor should be knocked out when hit or like ‘world of tanks’ should only work if you are standing still.
I would expect something similar with ECM, after all big mechs should be harder to hide than small ones

Hmm I simply think the Seismic should be nerfed and rendered more similar to an Aliens movement sensor, with "pings" like a sonar that are less frequent, like one sonar ping each 3 if not 4 seconds. You'd know something is coming, but without understanding perfectly how many enemies (and if they are lights or assaults) are coming in, and there would be a chance to completely miss standing mechs within area detection, or having difficulties to understand how many are actually within 400m.

It is a seismic scanner.
It should report seismic events and it should be prone to interference.
First of all, only mechs that are walking slowly or standing still should receive seismic readings. If you walk full speed, there is not enough constant ground contact without self induced resonance to get a reading.
Also a lot of events should cause pings without being mechs. Missile salvos hitting the ground, AC/20, Gauss and AC/10 rounds striking the earth. All this should cause pings.
With such a relatively simple change, the seismic sensor would still be useful. It would still be powerful even. Yet it could be countered, fooled and evaded.

Seismic sensors should NOT be prone to countermeasures. There is really no way to prevent seismic waves through the ground and the sensors are located in a 'Mechs legs, so cockpit shaking doesn't do much to prevent them to pick up the waves. Even though when a receiving 'Mech is in motion, it should still be able to pick up these huge eruptions. A slow walking, light mech could be able to move around undetected, but other than that...no.
