I think we used to call them Phractai, back when we first came up with Atlai in late July 2012.

With a little coordination most of these are great strategies. Some (cave rushes) work best if only a few heavy/assault mechs go and the rest of the team pushes from around the other side.
Forest colony: if the team on hill spawn has an open shot past the boat those cover positions in the water can be used to their advantage rather than the other team's. A little scouting to check if the path is open goes a long way.
Alpine Peaks: I've seen all of those work well.
Tourmalline: Yeah, you nailed that on the head.
Canyon: Basically, yeah, though the basin in the center that come up from/goes down to the canyon from the high ground by theta is a pretty solid low point to fight from.

The enemy has been suppressed and are cowering behind cover, just ripe to be rushed by the heavy/assault guys. Instead, 2 Altai, 1 highlander, and 2 cataphracts stand in a blob behind the AC-2 Jager just waiting.... and waiting.
Really? You want the guy with the XL and long range support guns (a second row mech) to take point? Really?
Grow a set and soak up some damage so the support elements can bring the pain.

This is EXACTLY what I see so often.
So many heavy/assault class....hiding behind a building/wall/rock....waiting?
Usually what they wait for it s the enemy to split up, surround them and mash their faces so hard even their mothers wouldn't recognise them.
