While I got in as a Founder, I've not played in a while, and have quite a few MC to spend. My question is: if I buy the X-5 (for example) would that give me a 330XL engine that can be put into any mech? Also, are weapons from mechs that are purchased swappable between mechs?

Well, not any mech. It must be able to mount that engine size. But if it can then yes, you can switch it around as you like.

Note the above, but yes and yes. You can sell the weapons and equipment too but it is recommended that you keep them.

All items you remove from a mech will wait patiently in your inventory until you sell them.

Of course all mechs have engine limits which are different for each mech, few mechs can actually mount an XL330. You can find every mech's max engine rating here in this stat table: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

Nothing lighter than a cicada can fit a 330xl, but many Heavy mechs can, as well as the Awesome 9-M and the Atlas's.
