I think it should just be until the armor section is gone... If you blow off the armor on that section, then the narc's gone. Seems like a totally fair mechanism, and one which would make the narc very useful (especially if you landed in on a key panel, like the CT).

What would happen if you put the beacon on exposed internals, though? Remain until the section is destroyed?

Maybe. Would reward you for hitting an armorless panel, like most other weapons.

If they can't or won't track the exact hit location, I would really suggest just make the Narc stop the first time a hit location is destroyed.

The only problem I see with the suggestion is, if you narc a leg on a heavy or assault, the narc will never be removed.

If NARC would be working correct, the mech would lose the leg, because all missiles would hit the NARC location.

MW:LL just uses a 30 second timer, and that's it! Perfectly fine and balanced, and features auto-seek of missiles like its supposed to.

I think the whine would be to much, if all missiles, inclusive dumbfired ones, would lock on the NARC as it should be.

NARC making all missiles auto lock on the NARC and hitting the NARC location would be best, 30 seconds for this is enough and would justify the 40 damage and its gone function.

The only problem with that is if you strap something on to the outside of the armor, the "something" will get destroyed before the armor does. Put a watermelon in front of armor plating, shoot it and which one is destroyed first?

Except that is not how they work, nor is there any indication that they will work that way in the near or long term. If you remove the loss due to damage or only take into account the damage applied to the narc location, you are dooming anyone who is NARCed to 30 seconds of LRM hell. 40 damage is quite enough when nobody has to actually see the target anymore.

Actually that is how they work (except in mech games they changed it so the missiles simple hit the "blob" of the Mech and can hit any part). (SRM4 tracking a NARC Beacon, requires target lock) http://www.youtube.c...unXNlnLE#t=346s (LRM's tracking NARC Beacon, does not require target lock) You know how someone who is NARC'ed wouldn't be doomed? You know, that thing called ECM which blocks a NARC Beacon from transmitting its signal. You know, how its supposed to be, shutting down a powerful NARC tool.

It will still time out, and I think that is fine.
