Conquest vs Assault

The Run Down

Assault :-

Best played in a premade group, for this to be a viable winning battle you realy need to have good communication and co-ordination, strategy and team play is the key aspect for this game type.

Why?

Because once your team loses 2 mechs and the enemy team has lost none you can just about say that the game is over, its just about damage control and stopping the cap because realistically capping is going to be the only way to win especially if the enemy have more assault mech's than you do. Basically its a stomp or be stomped battle, get the first few kills, rotate your frontline and the match is yours.

(its a hit n miss game if you enter into this game mode in a random pug drop, most pug players just do their own thing regardless of how much help and advice you give them.)

So the end result is the winning team has at least 5 surviving players hunting down the last mech.

Conquest:-

A much closer battle if the game is played as it is intended, still needs co-ordination but not as much as the game can still be won if you are 4 mechs down, although alot of players still like to get out there and brawl ( if thats what ya wanna do..go play assault ;p ) Gathering resource points and protecting the bases you have captured means the fights are generally spread out across the map involving 2 or 3 mechs, which is alot more fun and cheese builds tend to suffer in this environment.
Its a much friendlier game mode for the pug player as getting stomped isn't quite as common, although it does happen sometimes, (in my experience anyway)

I would like to see the end game points and MC awards changed for conquest as those mechs that make the effort to capture the bases get no reward for it, you can capture 4 bases and only get 1 capture assist at the end, so for this game mode to really be viable then the devs need to take a look at the way awards are given for this game mode. Light mechs are being hard done by here, as they are the ones that run around capturing the bases the majority of the time.

Anyway

As a pug player i prefer to play conquest game modes.
In a pre-made group i prefer to play assault game mode.

I only ever PUG, and generally leave the mode selector on "any." If I do pick one, it's usually Conquest, because I prefer the more fluid battle and varied locations. It also let's those that prefer to play CapWarrior do their thing without greatly impacting my fun. Even if you get totally dominated in resources, you at least have time to mix it up a little, first.

I have won multiple games of conquest with me being the sole surviving unit on my team. It can be awfully hard to pin down a Raven which you can't pick up on sensors thanks to ECM. Hop on a cap and by the time they respond I've already gotten it and moved on. Just can't be predictable with where you are going and the path you take to get there.
