heated flames towards developers about broken "promises" is exactly why:
A. They don't like to promise things, expecially not too far in advance
B. They EMPHATICALLY state, and REPEATEDLY do so that ANY and ALL proposed addition/changes to the game, roadmaps, mech, maps, balance, objectives, features et al ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME.
I understand what you are saying. However, this being the case, it's pretty damned hard to become excited for the game if:
A ) one never knows what is coming down the pike
B ) there is no guarantee that what is revealed will actually be coming or in what form
One of the big points of an Open Beta is the drive up word of mouth, show off an almost finished product, and basically build a customer base for when the game goes live. Right now, we have very little idea of what is coming, how it will be implemented, when it will be released, or even if that which excited us in the first place will still be added.
Companies, or at least companies in the real world, DO have deadlines and MUST meet them. I don't understand why PGI is being held to a lower standard than every other business (including the gaming industry itself) out there and being allowed to putz about at their own pace and in their own way, customers be damned. If they can't get hack it in the real world, then they are a failed business. Emphasis on
business. This isn't an art charity, where those plucky developers from Canada can express themselves freely without consequences.
Just because this is a video game doesn't mean that PGI is exempt from professionalism. When there is an exchange of money for a good or a product, people are entitled to want satisfaction and if that satisfaction is not met, then they are entitled to voice their dissatisfaction in the hopes that changes are made in order to better the product or service. I fail to see how demanding professionalism from a company that is expecting our money is so out of line.
Edit note: forum turned my B into a smiley with sunglasses
