Well, a big reason for that was the increase to a 1 in 6 chance to hit the head.

Ah, K. That is understandable. It is also something I don't think I really touched in my OP: Aiming. I think I always envisioned just a target proximity and letting the animation do the work, a Reticule is much too precise to determine these hits imo.
Although if you get a melee headcap, people won't want it to be a random thing and neither would I. But simplified aiming would make it potentially an easy thing to do.

So I'll leave that one open.

TLDR;

Gotcha.
COMSTAR EDIT: Haha, a guy falls. That's awesome.

However, please don't link random youtube posts in the suggestion forum like this.

And your point?
A man misses his kick and falls.
A mech, which is plugged into your own sense of balance via a neurohelmet misses its kick and could fall.

Yeah, falling on your *** would suck, yeah we are all trained pilots, but melee combat is not the primary role of a Battlemech (or at least not all Battlemechs).

Axem- Hmm, okay. Looking at the rules surround physical combat I always gathered that if I mech has hands, it's for bashing. In theory you could do other things with them but notice how the initial clan mechs mostly lacked them? While if you had hands sure you could punch Locust's into small craters, but you could also uproot trees, building rubble, mech limbs and smash people with them. Even the one hit trees sound like a better option than bumper mechs when you run out of ammo. If my mech has hands I want to use them for SOMETHING...even if it's just giving other mechs the bird.

I actually agree completely with punches being more likely to throw you off balance. I can punch someone while running at full speed. On the other hand if I try to kick you while I'm running I'm probably going to fall over.

I think I'd be happy with a simple melee system but I'd love to see 100 tons smash into 100 tons.

It was relevant to the topic and I am incensed by it's arbitrary removal.

That was the point, yes.
The first animation was to illustrate how silly a missed "punch" leading to a fall would be.
The second was to illustrate how a volly of missed kicks leading to a fall would be.

Melee combat is, has been, and forever will be cannon in the universe. Hachets, chainsaws from lumber mechs, ect. Mostly its all mechs that eitehr A) have a weapon on their arm replaced with a melee addon or ;) They have fingers.

I wouldn't mind seeing a kinda of Melee option.
