very good. creative and well done counter to poptarting. i like that the shake stops once you stop thrusting. the timing delay after which the shaking stops after thrustig is a matter of balancing i believe. the shorter you make this the more opportunities to shoot from there.

also now that its hard to hit while jumping id like to bring up that it would be nice if you would also be harder to hit when jumping. atm i am thankfull if a light jumps as he is just easier to hit then (more predictable). maybe you can add "sidestep" jumpjets or make the mech in the air "shake" as well so its harder to hit. in tt jumping makes you more difficult to be hit and to hit yourself. id somehow like to see that dodging with jumping implemented.

I'll copy-paste here what i said in my topic:

I really like to see screen and crosshairs shake when jumpjetting, but i think it's too much shake for lights. Playing my jenner, i've noticed that firing mi lasers at another jenner while jumpjetting is almost useless. It's too hard to hit during a light duel. The amount of shake should be related to the wheight of the mech. The higher the weight, the higher the shake.

I'm really happy that something has been done against all that poptarting, but this way you nerf too much lights, almost negating those beautifull knife-duels between lights...

BJ-3 has only energy slots. Good luck hitting anything with lasers while in mid air. And without JJs this mech is nothing. And this motion sickness...

Your comparison with SRMs is completely invalid.

i did no comparison with missiles. i simply stated that my catapult was ineffective because STANDARD SRM (the ones that don't lock) are fairly weak right now, BUT i had no issues hitting with them.

JR7-F with an ERPPC was the only jenner i used <-the one with only energy slots. i was jumping around with the jump jets just like i have always done since early closed beta and STILL landing shots with the single slug coming from my ERPPC AND with the 4 small lasers and 1 medium laser it has mounted.

i have no issues with removing the VISUAL EFFECT that is causing people discomfort, but all of the aiming effects should stay. i use jump jets and i approve this patch.

I didn't see anything about contributing factors to pop-tart hysteria. I know that my outfit, with 34 players, has almost dropped out of the game completely because there were no effective counters to poptarts aside from other high-alpha builds or wolfpack drops, both of which feel kind of cheap and gimmicky. I personally went from playing three or more nights a week to only playing on patch days, with the odd weekend match if I was feeling particularly masochistic. A few of our most dedicated guys just uninstalled last week with no intention of coming back because, in their words, "The game just isn't fun anymore." When I asked them about it, their two complaints were: 1) Poptart builds being impossible to counter without joining the gimmick arms race, and 2) high-alpha builds, which would admittedly be a lot easier to handle if missile boats could find cover without being popped by a JJ sniper.

Now, probably something needs to be done about PPC heat. It was too high before the change, but now it is clearly too low. Maybe hiking it back up to where it was and giving it an added fire effect (fuzzy hud or something, maybe?) would make it less boatable but still worth using? I don't know.

And while shake should be reduced if it is causing people to feel sick, fire accuracy while jumping should come with some kind of a handicap -- a wide circle reticle or something to ensure that you can't place accurate fire in midair outside of, say, 200m? Obviously, that number came from my butt, but you get the picture -- jump sniping killed my unit, and while there is a little bit of a revenge trip with seeing the system neutered, the game itself is better served if the poptarts just learn to do something that requires a little more skill.

Well it depends on what a wolfpack is to you. If it's a bunch of fast mediums and heavies, 2 scouts and an assault or two, that's bloody awesome. If it's 2 lances of RVN3Ls and EMC Commandos with a couple Flamer Cicadas for good measure, that's bloody arse annoying. I never had a problem with Poptarting Highlanders or poptarting in general, except for when I'm on a bad team, playing badly. Why? Because with a bad team, any kind of tactic is deadly to you. With a good team, the only time a Highlanding poppytart is dangerous is when it's in the air, and by then you and your teammate have already got it covered and hit it with lasers whenever it dares to show it's head.

So much of this looks like hardcores being upset because a part of the game mechanic they hate has gone unresolved. The poptart menace. But hell they don't seem to care much about all the other crap that is broken with the game, because they've adapted. Adapted? Hell, they're 'cores, they've bloody thrived. But poptarts just ruin the game for them. Do I sound a bit salty? Possibly because so many people sound satisfied now that the JJ shake is in, and fun is back in town, because the game is perfect again, now that poptarting is gone forever.

Guess what? It wasn't the poptarts. It was the free damage. They could damage you for free without getting damaged in return, because cooperating with a rock is safer than trying to work together with 7 other pugs. Meanwhile, you're trying to follow a group of slowmoving targets across a field, while gangs of rockrats take armor evaporating potshots at 1000m.

When you have a team, name a situation where poptarts are even dangerous. They're standing in one spot, only have a limited firing window, which also happens to be a guaranteed opportunity to damage them. Often times they're in dangerous places so they can get good firing angles. So if you have someone to cover them, and someone else to draw their fire, poptarts are just ******* hot TOASTER PASTRIES.

And I pilot a poptart(sometimes). My favorite mech. Meowlissa, named after the heir to house Katzen. (Hey, it's canon. And she gots a biiiig cannon!) They are far from invincible, have never been intimidating or game ruining, so long as more than one person is working to defeat the other team.

So I just can't see how 2PPC and jumpjets is somehow more dangerous or game breaking than 6 PPC alphas. I had a whole team of shitbillies crying about my highlander, when, in the end I barely broke 6th place. And I survived, because I didn't have an XLengine, and spent most of my time running away and evading fire when they all decided to try to kill me.

And in real life, lets not pretend like a poptarting mech wouldn't have some way to compensate for the mech shaking. My freaking cellphone is smarter than that. This is just a bandaid to make a vocal sector of hardcores happy. I'm willing to try some things, but that reticle shake has got to go. If you want to up the difficulty, make it like ******* gunsights where the slightest millimeter off means feet to yards of targetting difference. Don't make my reticle bounce all around the screen like it's attached to a spring! The thing is not a space shuttle trying to lift off.

I somehow get the impression that 85% of personal insults would be going in the direction of the guys making the game. Frustration is high...but we're not really mad with each other.

save for the ones softly whispering QQ as they slowly drink our tears. that just isn't right in the head.

and in case you didn't know. 97.999% of all spider pilots are either drunk or high when on the field, so giving them all vertigo, I just hope you post an address for all the cockpit cleaning bills. I had to take my spider and lay down on the bottom of a lake until the planet stopped spinning.

Could it be that the ACTUAL problem is [gasp] stupid high alphas that can hit one section at 800m rather then jump jets? PGI is going after symptoms, not the actual cause. JJ just makes high alpha builds very effective. Jack PPC heat/Gauss reload time and suddenly you have less incoming fire while you close from boating, mechs with JJ or otherwise.

Balance in PGI land:

2 + 2 = Potato

I think everybody knows this is the source of most current balance problems. This is why people didn't really have a problem with poptarts until the Highlander arrived. Boating + pinpoint accuracy is the root of most problems in this game. Period.

I’m a migraine sufferer with astigmatism, mild motion sickness and major love of giant robots. Love the game and other than Jenners being unplayable for me due to nausea, I’ve had no issues so far (I once played several rounds WITH a migraine, such is my devotion to your product). Well, no issues until the jump jet shake.

When I first heard about the shake, I had thought it would be more like the vibration and blurring effect that you’d see while, say, driving on rough terrain. While I really like the concept of cockpit shake, I found the actual visual combination of the wild up and down motion of the targeting reticule combined with the subtle side to side motion of the cockpit to be really hard to look at - no trouble if I made sure to not look towards the center of the screen while jumping, but obviously that's kind of a weird thing to remind yourself to do in the middle of a game. Combine those motions with laser fire and lateral movement and I start getting that Jenner-y feeling. I also noticed that my eyes felt strained after I got up from the computer, as if I had been staring at a screen for hours (instead of just 20 minutes).

At the time, I was playing my Catapult C1 and mainly used jump jets in short bursts to spin around more quickly, turn sharply, and shoot over teammate’s heads or avoid collisions. Not a lot of intensive jumping at all to get a bad reaction out of me. I also have a Spider, but I find myself avoiding it for now. That makes me kind of sad, because jump jets are just… fun.

As I said, I like the concept of jump jet shake and its effects on shot accuracy, but visually it’s too many things moving in different ways all at once. Maybe have everything shake in the same direction and intensity? Less overall shaking and more motion blur? Keep the mechanics - I understand that these effects shouldn’t be too easy for a player to compensate for, to balance the gameplay, but I don’t think it should accomplish this by causing physical discomfort.

Thanks for listening!

Jump jet shake is good. If you need to lower it a bit that's fine.

If you need to lower it a lot for lights, and some for medium's i'm good with that too. Leave it as it is for assaults and heavy's.

The root of most problems in this game is poor gamer skill.

PPC, GAUSS, and any other guns.
I will fight with any weapons with any enemies.
I will fight and win.
Some newbies gamers cry:

- They kill me! Can you do anything?

and then...

Ok!
see last patch!
Cool!

Balance? so funny...
Why in Counter Strike has no head shot problem?
May be you should try play for skill up,
MWO is a simple game for defeat any opponent with any mech's config.
Piranha? you will fix it all?
PPC, Jump Jets, SRM, Who's Next?
Oh! some mechs is so FAST!....
What are you can do when core gamers get out from game?

hey there rambo...dont you think that when 10 out of 16 players are poptarting the whole thing becomes a bit BORING!? seriously all you rambos out there keep in mind that not all complains about poptarts come from players crying because they died by one....unless your idea of "giant robotic war machines wrecking havoc with giant weapons" is bunny hoping toy robots jumping behind hills...

I will state it clearly again for the trolls in this thread
I got nauseated from one match in my spider, and
I hate poptarts just as much as anyone else.

Look people its quite simple watch this video from the 42 second mark in HD full screen so you know what I mean, and dont go baggin the game just because of what game it is im trying to explain my point.

You see that

1. The crosshairs get slightly bigger when the guy moves around

2. Not shown in this video but the crosshairs get quite large when running (could be used for masc)

3. Now the important part. When the character is jump jetting the crosshairs get very large and the cone of fire is as big as the gap seen, and you can see the gun wobbles around without giving a tiny insanely wobbling crosshair or the insane screen shaking

Its not a problem in that game because you dont jump snipe with ppcs aka sniper rifles here, the widened cone of fire when using longer duration weapons such as a laser or ac2 in mechwarrior can be compensated.

It is really that simple, when jumpjetting you can fire anywhere within that cone of fire and unless you are jumphuging an atlas there is a chance your instant shot snipe with ppc/gauss will miss.

This is a simple approach that solves the the following

1. Poptart aiming gets nerfed.

2. Mechs like spiders and jenners can sill aim quite well while jumpbrawling and hugging other lights or anything else.

3. No one will get this specific kind of nausea (I dont get car/sea/motion sickness but this made me want to vomit)

4. This same widening the cone of fire can also be applied to masc while sprinting so that there is no need to go and nerf masc after it gets implemented.

Reporting no problem making 300m shots, no issue with 500m so long as I let go of the jets.
No nausea either.

BORING!?
Yes, If you don't know that you doing. If you don't have any tactics.
CTF-3D with 2xPPC+Gauss is universal mech for long and close range battle and its VERY funny, but LRM boat's and newbies eight close range ATLAS's failed with 8:0 is BORING.
I Can cry such this:
Oh 2x AC20 Jagger, it's so hard and painful.
But I don't do it, I come to kill it. It's simple

It really ****** me off when people say they have migraines when they just have a mild headegg. Also typing your text in 8point size isn't helping. What a surprise, just like the patch notes said you can still poptart....

This is why I keep saying the aim aka the cone of fire needs to be bad for jumping, all the shaking effects need to be abandoned asap with a hot fix, the machine gun has a cone of fire so just make it a general thing when you are off the ground.

Here's the thing, I also piloted a trebuchet last night, exclusively with short range weapons. Again no issues.
I primarily play my highlander as a brawler in the 50m-300m range, I was just pointing out that accuracy is still reasonable. No more 1000m shots while in midair, but at medium distances you're fine so long as you're not expecting to cockpit shot people.

So for the skilled players at least say 500m hill poptarting will still exist, as I keep saying aim in the air is the way to fix it not screen shaking
