Konichiwa <VDB>

For those of you who are interested, I've posted a detailed series of picture from MPBT: Solaris before it's shutdown. With so many people having captured drop footage during the era, I figured on doing something different: At the time it was bittersweet, yet in retrospect I couldn't have been happier for putting forth the effort of capturing shots our old home of Solaris, specifically it's sectors and bars.

They can be located at Forums > MechWarrior Online Universe > House Talk > House Marik > The Bubbling Kettel, or click here.

I hope you enjoy viewing them.

Very cool. Brings back some fond memories. Thank you.

There is a lesson to be learned from MPBT Solaris for the game companies, if only they would hear it. Gameplay lasts longer than graphics.
I would gladly pay a monthly account to play Solaris, or Air Warrior, or Aliens even today, where most of the past 10 years games are completely forgettable, and forgotten. The dude from Minecraft figured it out, and the guys from Frozen Synapse, but the big companies are probably beyond hope and will eventually collapse under their own weight. But it will look FANTASTIC :)

Mmm I do wish they would toss MPBT: Solaris back up, or Air Warrior would be a blast also.

WWII Online wasnt bad though that wasnt Kesmai.

Ironically I think one of my favorite memories of Airwarrior was as a tank gunner, just ******** around....it took us forever to get to the enemy base in a tank, so I was talking to the driver.....who ended up being Ito from House Marik :) small world. I think he drove us into a gas tank too, silly Mariks

Yep, Air Warrior III was always good for a time out from MPBT Solaris. We had a guy in our stable (StinkMaw) that flew the hell outta a B-17. I really enjoyed being the tail gunner. He would get us over the target with me swatting the flyies about 1/3 of the way in and 1/3 of the way home. Then we would go to Steiner Stadium (Ganja, Com4, BigMouth, and I) and send a few Steiner lances to bed. Ahh the memories. Then back to Allman for cigars and a few single malts. Wow 14-15 years ago. Sure do wish Solaris was still around for nothing but fun!

I've searched the web every couple of years or so to see if anyone had ever managed to resurrect it, and Air Warrior as well. Have seen a few projects start up but they never seem to get anywhere. There is an Air Warrior forum out there, and it had a little activity for awhile, but the guy that started it died and I think the forum sort of petered out.
There do seem to have been working versions of Legends of Kesmai and Magestorm out there but I fear Solaris and AW are gone for good.
Planetside was a similar experience, till they ruined it, and it too has an effect on those who played it in its prime when you mention it in conversation. The eyes light up, then get misty... :)

I remember this one pilot from Solaris (gamestorm), who's name I am spacing on at the moment, who was the funniest person I have ever met. Told the story during one of the many house wars nights, after a particularly long marathon of playing, he fell asleep at the keyboard in one ready room, woke up to lines of green text "Ready up M***** F*****" filling his chat screen. Fond fond memories.

Air warrior 3. I used to love flying the b17 at max altitude for bombing runs. You would stall the plane out over the factory you were bombing and get super high accuarcy hits then jams the power to max and cruise on to your next target.

WWII Online is freaking awesome. Bunker duty at 4:00am, sound turned, up waiting to hear the sound of approaching EI<enemy infantry> Standing at the murder hole, sub machine gun rdy. they pop smoke and rush......do or die. rat a tat tat.
Nothing like sniping JU 87's out of the air with your 37mm AA gun. LOL
