I really loved my old Brawler DDC with

STD 325
2xML
AC20
3xArtemis SRM6
ECM

We once scored 999 damage (no joke!) and with him I climbed the 1.0 k/d hurdle.

After all the SRM changes and the recent change with ECM, I feel that our relationship somewhat cooled down. I take him out less often (I take MWO out less often in general though) and I think that the vibe has somehow disappeared a bit. Especially with the predominance of ranged warfare, I came to the conclusion, that something has to change.

I gave us a new chance by switching the SRM to SSRM and the MedLas to LargeLas. We had a fun time...but it frankly was not the same anymore.

Since then I am wondering how to set the world on fire again.

With this, I need your help:
  • I would like to keep SRM with Artemis as my missile weapons and I do not like 2xUAC in my atlas. I use those on my other atlai and they are working fine there.
  • Furthermore, I prefer AC20 over Gauss, not necessarily neglecting the Gauss.
  • I want to avoid STD 300 engine. Too slow.
Send me your DDC Builds, fitting to my ruminations. And please comment on the options I was thinking about!

I recently tinkered those ones out. Please comment and criticize:

Option A - STD 300, current Loadout, AC20, SRM4, LL
AS7-D-DC

Option B - STD 335, Endo Steel, AC20, SRM4, LL
AS7-D-DC
(basically an improved "A". But is it worth the money?)

Option C - STD 325, Gauss, SRM6, ML
AS7-D-DC

On my D-DC I run the following.

STD 350
AC10
2xERLL
3xSSRM

It's fast for an atlas and works at all ranges, and the extra agility means light have a much harder time getting behind me.

Use it instead :). You don't like any of the must-haves in the current meta...

SRMs' fire range is in a cylinder now/

It used to be a cone...

i wish they retained some of the cone, before going forwards as a cylinder. instaed of just being a cylinder

With SRMs as weak as they currently are, it's just plain harder to love this model. My best results lately have been with the following:

STD350
AC20
2LL
3SSRM
ECM
Endo
15DHS

Still not doing as well as my RS though. Either 4LL Gauss or 3PPC Gauss, that thing has been much more entertaining and effective.

Just have to see what the upcoming buff to SRMs looks like. With the lack of energy hardpoints on the DDC, a lot of its punch is reliant on the launchers.

i'm still using my ddc the brawling way with 3 srm6, 2 mpl, ac20 and ecm.
i dont get over 1k damage as much if ever but regularly over 500 which is standard i suppose with my other mechs.
the ddc used to be my best ride by a long shot but now it's balanced with the rest of my mechs and i'm glad for that...just hate frigging alpine

I run the exact same load out. Endo, 18 DHS, 592 armor, 30/200 ammo. Haven't touched it in over a month. But it's a respectable machine.

Yeah, basically the 1000 days are gone (excepting extreme outlier matches where you carry an entire team), and good riddance. It was primarily due to bugged SRM damage anyway. I remember just mauling mechs with a blast of 3ASRM6s. Fun? Oh yes... Reasonable? Not so much.

500 per match is definitely nothing to feel bad about.

I hate to say this, but as long as you rely on SRMs your loadout is going to be middling at best. I used to run three awesomes based around SRMs as well as an HBK-4SP, and have stuck with them as SRMs have gotten worse and worse with every patch. I've finally just given up. I'm doing barely over one damage per missile fired, which means that the SRM6 is just a very heavy medium laser with half the effective range and a fourth max range, 2x the crit slots, and an ammo dependency. There is nothing even slightly appealing about this. If you absolutely insist on SRMs, SSRM2 is a decent option just because it is guaranteed damage over time which means you will never lose to a light unless you are already almost dead.

That said, I can't exactly recommend you just switch to LRMs, because the rest of your loadout is setup pretty poorly for that. You could try to retool for longer ranges, but you might be better off just benching the chassis for now. There is really no reason to take close range weapons when long range weapons deal the same or better damage with no downsides like they do right now. Especially in an atlas, you are a huge tempting target, and when a smart opponent sees you coming from 1000m off he will just stay out of range until he's hurt you enough to take you down face to face.

Remove the SRMs and add streaks, replace medium lasers with two ERPPC, keep the AC20 (I actually run this on a highlander and its great)

When the last Patch notes informed us that ECM needs to be refitted because of the new Hard Point System I took a stroll into the hangar, looked at my AS7-D-DC what the situation was and stripped everything off it cause it totally screwed up my perfect load out for that Variant.

Yeah... I'm a little nitpicker when it comes to stuff like that but I don't complain - Haven't even used that particular Variant. By now I've even sold that entire Chassis as I'm probably not going to use it anymore with the two other Variants I still own ( AS7-D(F) and AS7-RS ) remaining a valid configuration.

I used to run the DDC with a 300 Standard, 3x SRM 6, 2x UAC5s, 2 Med Lasers. Not feeling anywhere near as effective as it used to be.

In the most recent meta, my DDC was best with no missile systems equipped at all.

2xERPPC, 2xUAC5, sprinkle with massive amounts of DHS for flavor.

Was getting ~6 - 800 last night with 2LPL, 1 ASRM6, and 2 ASRM4. ECM and AMS equipped with a 325 STD.

325std
2xPPC
AC20
3xSRM4

I've been carrying some teams with it, just because I provide a rallying point.

Koreanese recommends running an AC/20 and an AC/2 in a DDC for max ballistic DPS. I've not tried it yet, but it sounds intriguing.

Try this: AS7-D-DC.

SRM are just sucky at the moment. Once they're addressed you will fall back in love with your brawler.

7 tons for too little damage to make up for anything you may give up. Bad idea is bad.
