Hi all together.

As many others i was enjoying the MW series and now looking for a game, that will bring up the same feeling and atmosphere. However, the 1-million-dollar question in every MMO is - will it be Pay2Win? Im not one of those whiners who are complaining about cashers getting some stuff a little bit earlier, but it would be really frustrating if some of the best Mechs would be reserved to the deep-pocket-faction only.

So well, first question - if someone brings 1000$ in, will he be able to insta win like in S4League or progress 10 times faster than normal players like in World of Tanks? Or will it be a fair system where only cosmetical stuff is offered for money?

Next thing i was asking myself is - when do i get an answer if i may participate in the beta after filling out the profile informations? Im quite a perfect candidate - but i guess that most will think that im lying when saying, that i actually study gamedesing right now - so what are the average chances to get into the beta?

Those 2 things i would like to know and im looking towards a great game which will hopefully not fail as hard as Perpetuum did.

Edit: Which house Jen McQuarrie belong to? The story is pretty complicated and the only thing i know, that Jen was the most awesome Lancemate i ever had and will always be

well..

as the devs said, this wont be a pay2win game. That being said, yes, players who pay will be able to earn c-bills faster. thus having more mechs at their disposal. However the mechs and their weapons are the same for everyone. Medium lasers on a light mech damage just as they would on an assault mech (to use your WoT reference, you wont run into those annoying 'that one bounced' sayings).

as for the beta..well there are thousands of people who consider themselves 'perfect candidates' for it. noone knows what criteria they're using to pick beta players, only that every so often they drop another 500 keys out there :-) In a perfect world, their pool of beta players would be a very broad sampling of players, so its probably best if they did it completely randomly. Kind of like political polling..to get the best results you dont focus on one type of person, you a diverse cross-section. That way things are found that may not have been with only one group of 'designers' or 'sys admins' might have found.

if you bring in 10$, you´ll probably level faster than someone not paying anything...if u bring in 100$, you´ll level as fast as the 10$ guy, just 10 times longer i´d say...and if you bring in 1000$...well that´s your problem :P

yes he will be able to unlock abilities faster but you cant pay for a mech or weapon advantage. there is no pay to win. although its unsure how much abilities affect gameplay, as long as theres not things like instant heal or invulnerability you should always be viable.

They should have the cash shop for c-bills for those people that dont want to grind, extra mech bays hopefully we get atleast 4 at start, paint and custum decals, new mechs. exp and probably more stuff

The Perfect Canadiate things made me laugh. I'm sure you are. I'm sure you too have a bachelors in 3D animation and 57+ game alpha/beta tests under your belt. I'm sure you were also apart of the Online Beta Tester Guild back in the day, that would not only teach people what it means to be a program tester but also how to properly fill out a reference log to repeat a problem.

I'm sure you know everything. Thus your a perfect canadiate. Whats that? You've never been paid, put under heavy NDA, and required to find X number of problems a week else you no longer have a job? tsk tsk. You don't know what living is my friend.

Its not about how good you are. It luck of the draw. Their internal testers alone probably find more problems then most outsourced. The game will launch soon anyways.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST. Please use the Search function up top. You'll learn alot more then asking FAQ style questions. Or did they not teach that in school? You know. Reading the FAQ, :P

Enjoy your stay. Have a good day. Drive safe, people are stupid. And keep your head on a swivel.

In MWO for money will be available design but not superiority in battle.
As in the game "Battlefield: Heroes".
I hope so.

Another nonsensical thread from someone who didn't take the time to actually read the information on this website.

If you suck and spend 1000 bucks you'll STILL SUCK.

Stop complaining and play the game.

Pay 2 win is old news. They are no longer accepted by the gaming community as much.

Pay 2 Progress, that is a term that might suit the new model.

There will probably be items that give very slight increase in abilities. There has to be something for the players with money else it get very boring. Items that offer unique builds, rather than increased ability but more precise style is always in demand.

No one can demand they do not put things in the games store that don't offer a tiny bit extra. That is not really pay to win, players using store items can still be beaten. I think TRUE pay to win are those games like Battlestar Galactica Online where players can upgrade everything multiple times using money.

I think the gaming community is over sensitive to the whole pay to win thing and applying the label to any game that sells items. Star Trek Online has some nice ship consoles, plenty players call it pay to win but its rubbish. Put 10 of the c-store consoles on one ship and that ship will not stand a chance in PvP. The purpose of the consoles is to perfect a specific build, get a little more out of an entire Starship and speccing. So yes there is a slight bonus and improvement in ability but the player needs to know what they are doing plus perfect the build.

i hope that made sense.

Ceo of PGI personally messaged me about pay2win when I asked ..... long long time ago
Well not gonna happen.I dont think any other ceo would answer such question to a random member.
Short of long story.Money is more likely to those love make ups on mechs or have limited time for earning Cbill via play

lol 'perfect' beta candidates... first batch of keys, as I understand it, went largely to people unfamiliar with Battletech. It seems they wanted to see what people would do, not knowing the specifics of the BT universe. Later batches (and maybe even past ones) will see more experienced users I'm sure.

If an item is only available in the store and that item affects gameplay, it is arguably pay-to-win. You can't really argue against that. A lot of people don't mind spending money, but they don't want to feel like they HAVE to spend it to remain competitive (WoT clan wars: gold rounds).

I would love a "premium" type thing for more c-bills/pilot exp per battle, and I wouldn't mind grabbing decals/camos, but I'd feel quite dishonest buying $-store-only weapons/ammo/engines/whatever that directly affects gameplay.

Hi I'm new here, (I've played world of tanks for about a year). i really, really hope the community of MWO doesnt devolve into players spamming "OMG p2win, gold rounds!!!" in the in-game chat every time they die, like in world of tanks, where instead of learning game mechanics they instantly jump to the conclusion of "OMFG I died becuz of pay2win ammo!"

Sorry to sound ranting.

It wont happen because there wont be any gold rounds, more powerful mechs or anything of the like. You wont be able to buy power in MWO, youll buy convenience like double XP for a month, or double c-bills for a month. that kind of thing.

WoT is the worst example of a pay to win (or best example how to be a greedy d-bag company) and hopefully MWO is NOT the same. WoT has 2 tier brackets 1-2 and 8-10 that are the most balanced, you drive anything else in the 3-7 range and its just trash with your odds being 75% chance for dying with a repair bill and crappy reward being low since 80% of the player base plays tier 8 or higher. Sorry, but when one tank on the bottom has 1/3 the hitpoints, 1/2 the armor, 1/4-1/2 the damage and pennetration of the top tank...the top tank is worth at least 3 of your crappy tank on the bottom and its basicly like having 45 tanks above you that you need to destroy (its a mental thing) while the guy on the top will most likely destroy you and the other 2 bottom tiers by himself (top dudes are counting how many tanks they have the potentional to destroy from the bottom up). Have a Sherman, PzIV KV, KV-1S, an M6 fully decked out so you feel like a bad ***...grats 90% of the time when you click that battle option you will land on the bottom facing tier 8/9/10 and the time you spent grinding it became invalidated (its really enjoyable that in a single hour hour, only 1 mid tier tank will ever land on top). WG should of just had a free tier 1 and 2, the rest should of been cheap purchasable tier 8-10...Shermans, PzIV, T-34 are a total waste of tme as you get pretty much one shotted and have to wait until the match ends to get it back (recently waited 5 minutes for a draw while a slow heavy and TD dicked around on cap as they were the last 2) further slowing down your progress towards the next tank because 460 hitpoints will somehow keep you alive long enough since your sub 90mm armor does not resist 200+ pen gun that does almost 400 damage.

I hope we can set up a fast key to type "OMG p2win, gold rounds!!!" for when we get popped.

Because that sounds hilarious.
