In my personal experience, the reason the enemy Atlas gets targeted first is that if you let it live long enough it will rip your assaults and heavies apart.

That seems to describe Stalkers more than Atlases (although not quite so much lately, especially with the SRM nerfs).

Yes, the SRM nerf kinda weakened them close-up but the main thing is that you don't need to concentrate on them for very long so it doesn't show. I am much more careful in a Stalker than in an Atlas. If the enemy team concentrates on your Stalker it's over very fast since everyone and their mother can aim and hit your side torsos. Highlanders and Atlai are much more durable in that respect.

I am an Alas Pilot. The only time I die quickly is when I make a mistake and leave myself in a bad position facing more than one enemy. It's not the Mech its the man. That includes me when I screw the pooch.

Learn 2 Play. Using the powers of my anecdotal evidence, I will scientifically prove to you that it's not the mech, it's the man. The mech is fine. As proven by my anecdote.

Seriously though, Atlases are quite powerful machines when played right... but they're also not exactly top tier as far as assault mechs go (DDC excluded).

Below Stalkers and Highlanders really - owing to its slow speed and large size, despite the increased armor, it's a bit more vulnerable and even weaker than the other two.

The main reason the DDC is as good as it is, is because it helps the pilot avoid unwanted long range attention for a bit longer.

The solution to most of these size imbalance issues... is funnily enough, to tweak the size.

Normalize the sizes a bit more so that lights are a bigger than they currently are, and assaults (atlases and awesomes particularly) are smaller than they currently are.

Funny you should say that because I find Stalkers, Highlanders and Atlai totally different in their piloting and role. In fact, I think that each assault has it's niche use - Stalkers to put out the damage, Atlai to anchor the team (yours and the enemy's) and Highlanders in between the two, dishing it out as well as taking it.

I would go as far as saying that that is one of the reasons people gravitate to assaults, they are easy to play in their intended role.

You might have noticed me omitting the Awesomes, but come on, Awesomes are not really assaults, are they ?

Stalkers are what Atlases are supposed to be.
