yea and i dont get the Artemis Controller either. It's f-ing huge #1 and #2 that screen is totally whack. Why do you need that when the same info is right there on screen in front of your face. I have the same capabilities, minus the screen using my sidewinder precision 2 and my n52te

Limited to 8, huh? If that was the case then I'd use a mix like this:
3x Assault
2x Heavy
2x Medium
1x Light
The specific Mechs within the classes would be determined by what is available.
