The blackjack is a finnicky little mech. It's only as fast as a hunchback, only with a much larger CT (That always seems to take the brunt of the damage) and higher-mounted ballistics and energy slots located in the arms. Where I would say that a hunchback (Especially the 4SP, easily best in chassis) is something of a brawler in the right hands and setting, the BJ-1 is a direct fire support mech, and doesn't have the sheer burst DPS and armor of other, heavier meduims. (Even 6ml-8ml builds overheat too quickly and are too poorly armored/reliant on XL engines.)

This build is able to take a good beating and survive compared to XL models, and has the weapon balance to act in both a direct fire role and still defend itself when targeted. It has plenty of ammo, and the weapons layout runs very cool.

If you feel the need for an XL regardless, swapping an XL235 in is very simple. Just pull 1DHS, as the new engine will already have the DHS built in, the net result of which is even higher HE. Personally, I feel the BJ loses side torsos too quickly and often for an XL to be a viable choice, but to each their own.

Its not a zombie if it doesnt have ct weapons. Run a centurion.

I've escaped to base cap many times without any weapons, after dealing 300+. That is what a zombie does, one persons post in regard to their own made-up terminology has nothing to do with meta-canon. :3

Tried both XL and standard and both are feasible. XLs are my preference. Feel safer able to run 80 kph. Blackjacks losing a left or right torso is losing half his already meager dps. Best way to play a BJ is being sneaky and running away from any direct confrontation.

Not a zombie mech because it has no CT weapons. Lose your side torsos and you are a stick. Plus, blackjacks lose their CT far more quickly than side torsos typically.

As said above, get a Centurion.

Pretty much. Direct conflict is always too harsh, unless the target has a weak torso point. Also, I've lost either side and gone on to deal damage effectively. *shrug*

To note, Cents are one of my favorite mechs, I simply prefer mechs that are JJ capable to them.

There is some irony for you, majority define a zombie mech as one that can do damage as long as it is alive. Any mech can be stripped and flail along trying to bodycap.

yeah i was hesitant about putting in an xl engine but hile lvling up my 1x with a 290std engine i noticed the vast majority of my matches i died from losing the CT while everything else was in ok to fine shape so i switched. haven't really died that often to side torso explosions and am able to stuff more/bigger weapons with the heat sinks to run them with the xl.

i'm on pooty's and xeno's side as far as the zombie thing goes too. cents running around shooting at 25% health with no arms or torsos or to a lesser extent a hunchy with the head laser are more zombie-like than running around weaponless cause if that was the case every mech out there is a potential zombie. but as we know zombies can still bite and infect you so a zombie mech does kinda need something to bite with if it's gonna kill you. :P

The zombie rig is feasible with the Blackjack for a rather interesting reason. The front side torsos are small, yet the rear side torsos are large and envelope half the rear center torso.

My Blackjack runs rear side torso heavy in terms of armor because of this.
