Well well well
So last 2 games, pugging, someone gets "command".
First game we lose horribly as some NOBODY (you know who uR) bosses people around and puts up locations on map, typing wayyy tooo much. He puts up a whole 51 dmg at end of match.
Second game just now; again someone pings up with CMD and tells everyone to basecamp defend, assault mode, on Tourmaline.
Ecm'ed Atlas refuses to sit at base for 5+ minutes and starts the walk as do I. Then Atlas Disconnects figuring its pure crap that only me and him were heading out. Game was already 0-2 them, from him getting shot up and me going 3 to one while everyone else just sat at base. Good Job Commander lmfao.
Unless I am in a group I will NEVER, Repeat-Repeat-Repeat NEVVVVERRRRRRR follow orders from anyone. Advice yes... absolute ordering around cause you have a command console equipped, NEVER.
And I suggest all of you do the same. Every game so far since I started playing, where some guy was barking out bad advice and orders has been a LOSS.
Since last patch with the notifications and audible dings it's been much worse. Especially for the very new players, this makes them think they really do have to follow commands, when it's really a bad idea unless they truly are an exceptional player, who has demonstrated such to have a CMD status.
Needs to be removed from game imo.
Yes, just now after 2 losses, 2 deaths, 2 times in a row, zero kills, I AM VENTING.

OP sounds like an entitled punk kid.

The unfortunate truth is, you are far more likely to win if you follow bad orders as a group, than if you do what you think is smart on your own.

yeah.. from your profile Bday, it puts me 4 years older than you MRson. Non-entiled Non-Punk Non-Kid here. ThxTho

So I guess it's my bad that I assumed you needed a Command Console to take command.
So as it seems then, ANY person can just take command. huh
"Stick Together" "Focus Fire" "Lights back to base" etc etc.. All this I can deal with.
But someone please explain how someone, Anyone, can put up a location that everyone NEEDS to go to, 30 seconds into the game without any scouts or insight as to the position the enemy team is taking first?
It's sort of like a River city game where everyone trots off on a mad rush going lower, then dubs around, as the other team ALL went other way and starts a 4,5,6 man cap on base. WASTE OF TIME.
There is merit to "sticking together", but lots of times when things go south, it's better to split up into two groups, send a decoy up the left flank and move in when other team loses focus etc... Everyone thinks playing this game like a game of checkers is the best way, and if anything it's more a dynamic and constantly fluid game of chess.
I am much more responsive to advice and "this is what we SHOULD do" rather then "GO HERE< GO THERE CAUSE I SAID SO" WhotheF^%^&kRU to tell 7 others what to do.
I would rather die alone fighting than die together one by one hiding.

I'd like to point out that there are quite a few premade groups who will have one player take command to relay orders and information to the rest of the team, so simply ignoring the commander because you lost a couple of matches is a pretty stupid thing to do.

THIS.

I usually drop with 3-4 friends, the dreaded "TS Premades vs Pugs"... one of us almost takes command, becasue we DO have comms and use them, and anyone that wants to is gladly invited to be a part of out strategy.

If yomebody decides to run off his own way and get facerolled, then say even a single word, the response is almost universally" Those that listened are still alive and winning. You not caring about teamplay is not the team`s fault but yours." I think 2 of us even have that as a macro....

So with that thinking pattern, one of 4 in a 4-man premade takes command and decides the strategy of not only what they are doing, but waht the other 4 are doing and if they don't agree then screw them??? LMFAO
Say what you want but plenty of times it was you 4 that marched "Alone" to your deaths.
Why would you not want to compromise on a strategy if there is resistance to your Command?
What's the difference. It's already extremely challenging going up against 8 with only 7 because of a dissconnect on the drop. So it's ok then to have some command structure and not care if 2 players go do their own thing and die early because of it? Because they think you pushing water is stupid or going cave is a bad idea??? That is like going 6 on 8.
Whatever.
It does not happen often, just saying when it does regardless of following orders or not following them, it's been a loss 80% of the time.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit I see.
Key word was "SOUND" like an entitled punk kid.
Didn't say you were one.

But from your prior posts and the one I just quoted.
I can tell you are an entitled, punk "man".
Seriously, your acting like a douche.

Oh how I wish.
Rage aside.... Spelling MUST not be your Strong Suit as it is YOU'RE not "your acting like a douche"
Better rethink who the douche or punk is guy.
You are the one name calling and chiming in to my thread with zero input except to berate me personally.
I would really like to know what makes me come across as "entitled" because I don't want to waste 10 minutes of gaming and life taking terrible orders from terrible players who indeed think THEY are entitled to do so in a friggin online F2P video game, just because they think a CMD star next to their name gives them A-U-T-H-O-R-I-T-Y to do so.

FIrst off, you don't need the command console to take command. Anyone can click on the command button (currently the command console does nothing - they haven't put its function into the game yet, and have yet to announce what it will do).

Second, it has been my experience that taking command is pointless because the Commander has no additional resources, it's too hard to issue commands while piloting your own mech in a fight, and no one listens to them anyway. If the Commander was the only one able to launch UAVs, or read data from Seismic sensors that would be different.

IF we had a properly implemented VoIP system in the game, and not some half assed program thats shoehorned into the game....it would make working together, in pugs, a completely different game, overnight.

Typing as a way of communication, in a First or even 3rd person based game, is NEVER a good idea. Why? You have to take your hands OFF of your controls, to type, so while you are typing, your not able to respond to a fight happening, much less able to do anything DURING a fight.

Talking is far better, because even with PTT, its just ONE button, that most people are used to binding to there talk button. For me its MOUSE4 or 5, aka the side buttons of your 5 button mouse. Very easy to hit with your thumb, and you don't even have to stop shooting, or piloting your mech....what a thought!

Agreed. But you know what would be even better? Voice Commands.

You press a button to bring up a menu of voice commands, then hit a number to choose one. So instead of having to type out important information in the middle of battle, you can hit two buttons and your pilot will call out predetermined phases like 'Enemies Spotted!, 'Defend our base!' or 'Behind us!'

Team Fortress 2 and Smite have systems like these and they work very well.

Agreed. But you know what would be even better? I say something into my mic and the team hears it so I can share information and pilot my mech at the same time.

Still acting like an entitled douche.
And actually I'm fine with spelling. That was a grammatical error not a spelling error.

Please elaborate?
Is it because you assume i am in some Sh*&$ty ELO bracket; or when you have an overall 10-1 KD ratio the CMD feature goes away, as in the bracket you are in?

It's because I've never seen you in game, despite seeing many players over and over again, makes me think that I'm in a different Elo bracket than you. I say this is a good thing because I don't want to end up on the same side as someone who is so belligerently anti-teamwork.

You know what's a major problem that I believe I'm noticing.

The shift for new players to playing with just your ELO bracket means that you won't get people pushing you to improve your game. You won't come across the players who will tell you to Press "R" to get a target, or to be mindful of certain situational things. So these new players come in with their fresh ELOs and play with others... re-enforcing bad behaviors... then they get into the higher elo bracket and they think what they've done previously is still going to apply.

It's like playing pug matches almost exclusively and thinking it'll apply once you get into 4 mans... or playing 4 mans exclusively and thinking that'll work for 8. It's unfortunate and probably won't change until they institute a training program.

You know what.. you're right. This is not immediately apparent, but there is no obviously logical progression for getting better as a whole. You are only effectively trained to shoot better and perhaps go the main routes... but mentally, you are not really thinking beyond the scope of what you are doing... like "why/how did we get capped?" or "why does that position work better for us than them?". For a thinking man's game, people stopped thinking. That's a problem.

I haven't found the commander system to be incredibly effective, as it's kind of a pain to use in-game. I remember BF2142's command system being far more intuitive. There was a team commander with access to all sorts of fun goodies, like orbital strikes, UAVs, satellite scans, supply drops, and a bird's eye view of the entire battlefield. The trouble was, the most effective way to actually use the Commander position was to sit in or near your main base, perhaps lay some mines at the beginning, and sit there on your command computer spotting dudes over and over again. There was also a much more interesting "Squad Leader" position which would accept and relay orders from the commander to his 6-man squad, and request supplies or orbital strikes, or set down drop beacons for drop-pod reinforcements.

The best part about this system was that you got points for everything, so there was a tangible incentive for using the command system. Squad members get points for following their Squad Leader's orders, and Squad leaders get points when their squad members follow their orders. The Commander could only get points for using the commander interface. He gets no points for killing dudes with his gun or capturing bases, so there's an incentive to use your command tools. Only points for spotting assists, supply drops, and killing enemies with orbital strikes. And his score is doubled points if his team wins.

I don't see this exact system working for MWO, but adding XP or C-bill rewards for following orders might get people to use it more. The ability to issue orders without pulling up battle-grid would also be very handy.

and there are no tangible rewards for doing so.

If there was

4 man that does not take command = 4mechs working together, and 4 doing whatever they want.
4 man that does take command = 4 mechs working together, and up to 4 other mechs working with them OR doing whatever they want.

Why wouldn't you want the latter? I lone wolf almost exclusively, and so I've really come to appreciate it when anyone tries to communicate ANYTHING, because other wise its just 1v whatever decides I'm the priority target.

console commands are nice even if you're going to ignore them because at least then you have a general idea of what some of the rest of your team is going to be doing. If nothing else you can just chill 300-400m away from their doomed offensive, and play vulture... thats gotta be worth a couple of kills before you lose. kill/assist are worth way more than W/L at the moment anyway.

Long story short. Its a team game, sometimes that means that the other people aren't going to do what you want them to, and some or all of them may even decide to do something you don't like together.

it might be a team game but when the strategy is sitting all 8 mechs in one CLuster #### ill pass. i drop i group and solo and will pass along what im doing but will not tell everyone what to do. most people who take command have no clue what they are doing anyway.
