Wanted to suggest a new game mode and share my take on it. The nomenclature used just to communicate the idea.
<tl;dr>
• Team 1 - Bounty/Headhunters
Objective; >> Kill the target on team 2
• Team 2 - Target (VIP) and Escort
Objective; >> Ensure survival of the targeted team member as they complete their objective

I don't want to expand on it too much. I like to allow room for other peoples take on a simple idea. In case it's welcomed, I'm going to risk throwing out a few ideas:
• Team 1 - Bonus for eliminating all of Team 2 and immobilizing(legging) the VIP.
• Team 2 - Objectives such as, a set Nav points the VIP must navigate to for extraction.
Anyone else reminisce about those those lovely dynamic nav points? Bonus points if you recall escorting a certain governor's limo and an arrogant prince ~22nd in line for his house's throne who fancied himself an elite mechwarrior?
• VIP defaults to highest Elo rated player
I may have shot myself in the foot with that one but I just can't hold my tongue I feel so strongly about having a dynamic like this. As a side note, I feel similar approaches like this could be used to create a huge number of unique game types and content that make use of an interesting new dynamic element. This being one example of things could be done with Elo that might not have even been thought of when it was first envisioned. Besides, I can't speak for everyone but I would really like a chance to try taking out a much higher rated player, and who wouldn't want to be known as the infamous mechwarrior so deadly he gets 2 lances devoted to collecting his scalp. But I digress, I'm just seeking validation( and attention) from my peers.

I like the way you implemented ELO in there for the VIP...great idea.

An other thing that could fit Clan Invasion.... I would like 2 team of human player battle against wave and waves of clans coming from a dropship. The clans would be computer AI (if you think AI suck....well i have some news for you....they can be addaptative...had see it in few games a long time ago....so imagine today)
How would you win? Destroy the main dropship or spacecraft. How do you lose? --- All your teams get kill by the AI.
So it would be 24 players against the AI....wich would launch wave and wave of clan mechs.
Sure IS mech could fit clan weapons but we could only use IS mechs... Strategy would be important and playing rambo style (all alone thinking you re a 1 man army wouldnt work)
Rewards?
By killing mechs and doing damage to the dropship.
* we could have repairs bays....but if you lose a limb or a torso....it cant give you back this part....It can refill your ammo and repair armor...but the critical hit couldnt be repair (like losing a heat sink and etc)
I would play this so much....because i would see a lot of strategy from both team against the AI.
** and on the statistic profile....well they could make a section for this.

Escort is one of the most promising types of mission that could be included at some time in the future. In your implementation it is for a VIP, but it could just as well be an Ammo, medical, Salvage, Science team or anyone of many other types of convoy. The main problem that has been discussed in the past is: would the convoy always take the same route? Should it be AI controlled or could it be "Lead" by a Mech in your Lance. The problem being that if it always took the same route, the mission would end up being like the current assault missions were everyone knows where to go and they nearly always do.

Yeah I totally agree on all points. Especially the problems with what I'll just call "non-player controlled mobile assets". They have many inherent problems; being predictable in nature inevitably leads to a dull MMORPG "grind" like feel. As you mentioned it has been discussed that having the asset follow a player solves the issue. However, that can create toally new problems, both engineering and human, ranging from simple terrain/pathing, to griefing, and exploitation. Last but certainly not least I feel it just doesn't seem innovative or interesting enough.
My thoughts are that unless some other dynamic that I don't know about yet is planned or thought up, any escort type of game mode objective make the escorted asset player controlled; specifically, via a granular interface or as in my case, make the player the escortee.
That post you linked makes a distinction in that the asset is not mobile but stationary which is beyond the scope of escort missions. But I found a post you linked inside of that thread regarding a suggested game mode - Evac Zone - that comes closer to touching on having the asset be mobile and/or the actual player(s).
I'm most curious as to how mercenary corps and community warfare pan out and if bounty/head hunting, which is mentioned a quite a bit through the lore, will have a place in it.

I had forgotten about Evac Zone; I think the thread ended to soon as this could have developed further. The last entry discussed medical convoys but again as AI and intended to be targeted, basically sitting ducks. The actual concept behind Evac Zone was straight forward; run for the Dropship but don't expect it to be easy. I think this idea would appeal to a lot of the MechWarrior's out there.
Going back to the Escort missions; I like the idea of being able to be the escortee. This would introduce a new role, especially as the lead escort vehicle would be able to talk (via the chat line) to the escorts. This role could be further enhanced if the escort vehicle had some sort of battlefield advantage, maybe carry a UAV or be equipped with a boosted version of Beagle.
