I admire your patience m8. I'd alpha his head right after that ac20 slug.

I have never committed friendly fire on purpose, but i sure committed a lot of it by accident when there was the chat bug that occurred during start up. I cannot count many times I would type D1 or something at startup to tell my team where to go, or "1 person follow me", and when start up was complete my jenner would alpha strike. Thankfully, this bug got fixed for me before I started a match with my reticule on an atlas's back with a 6 med laser jenner or I would have been in serious trouble. But once start up is done and people are walking to their targets, there should not be any reason to commit friendly fire unless it was a chat bug r tab in tab out kind of thing. This bug must have been brutal for the 6 ppc stalkers facing any mechs backside during start up.

I admit that one of my latest matches, I had an incident of FF. I'd switched to Heat vision mode (bad idea) on a nice snowy Frozen City, presuming it'd help me spot the other team better. Things were going fine...until we hit the first hairball. Enemy Atlas tromping through three lancemates...one of which was an Atlas. I actually held my fire for a few seconds to try and make sure I wasn't going to ping my own people, and when I thought I had a clear shot (still in Heat mode....), I cut loose. And that's when I noticed the red triangle over the Atlas I was aiming at had actually moved behind a building to the left by the time my beams hit. That meant that the Atlas outline I was aimed at, one that was merged with the ENEMY Atlas a moment ago... was my teammate. I felt so ashamed. I try to pull my fire away from teammates because I don't want to wound them. And here I was accidentally letting fly into the back plates of my lancemate.

I did apologize in the chat after I'd died, near the end of the match, but I don't know if that pilot ever saw the apology. Heh...if they read this post, then maybe they can forgive me, because it was quite the case of mistaken identity. I shouldn't have been in Heat vision mode when I was. Not very helpful in a hairball.

I don't PUG much anymore. Part of the reason is that often when I do, I end up taking damage from my teammates well before first contact with the enemy. It's gotten so bad lately that my first move when pugging is to quickly turn around and face anyone behind me. I had one guy fire a few lasers into my back the other day, I let it go and kept walking, waiting for an apology. Then he followed it up with an AC-20. I turned, waited 5 seconds, no apology came, so I cored him. He then chews me out, calls me a jerk, and says he was just setting up his weapon groups! Some people... Please, if you really feel the need to fire off your guns at the start of a match, BE CAREFUL. And if you accidentally hit a teammate, quickly say sorry. In order to balance this growing menace out, I suggest the ability to mark teammates as hostile; if two others also mark them, their tag turns red and a ticket is automatically sent to the devs. Repeated infringements = the ban stick.

i know that feel its happened to me too except i didn't kill them i just moved outta the way

If only spiders and whatnot had that option after being hit by a 60 damage alpha strike.

Also, who had the wise idea to put the alpha strike button right underneath the select chain-fire button? It seems to be a big cause of problems. A number of times i've seen people go '**** SORRY, I BUMPED THE ALPHA BUTTON.' It just seems like a terribly shortsighted design/key placement.

yes, but total noobs have no idea.  It comes up a lot in game dude.  I mean, YES, of course I, MYSELF, know this.  But do you really think 100% of people immediately rebind all their keys before ever playing this game?  No.   What is with PGI people being {Richard Cameron}.  Get off your high horses please.?

Just to play Devil's advocate, where would you put it? There are enough different keys used in this game that it's always going to be near something that's otherwise innocuous. Logically, it should be the ~\` key or the 7 key so that it's in the same row with the weapon group keys. Either of those placements would be adjacent to the team chat or match status keys - and that would make for a horrible way to either say hello to your team or check and see just what you're matched against if you miss the key you're looking for.

Reassigning keys is a thing common to all video games. If someone doesn't know how to do it, he's a noob to video games in general.

Well I like the Idea of marking someone as hostile I think that might end up being abused. And I think getting banned might be a bit extreme because say you're with a team of a bunch of immature jerks, you could accidentally fire at one of them and they just start spam marking you as hostile. I think the justice served with just being able to mark and kill someone who purposely, or without care fired at you is a good justice in itself. But yeah it might just end up being abused.

Getting shot in the back sucks, for sure, but what bugs me is when people continue to fire randomly in the air on the way to battle. There's no strategy that can survive having some moron telegraph your current position every time his laser cools down. Yeah, the lights are pretty. I get it. Go to the testing grounds and have a blast.

One of the first decals they make should be a tramp stamp that says "Alt-tab to destroy" or something along those lines.

Yes i agree about the people firing at the start is crazy. So far I am lucky not to take a hit. But they will also fire into your travel path as you move out. I usually turn at look them down at that point. But for the life of me I don't understand the guys firing the big guns and ppc's up in the air as we move out. Might as well tell the enemy what you got.

I mean I've seen that from the other side. And go ah, he's over there and got that. Better nail him quick.

With all due respect to a Staffer (good to see ya) that has taken the time to comment here... Nope, Moral is THINK before you shoot. Some of the preceeding posts show that some of these numbwits were quite aware of who they were shooting at.

Seriously why can't the 60 seconds before we can use consumable Airstrikes also be for weapon pre heats (no fireing) or some such. Tell me if the two fastest mechs in the game ran at each other on a short map would they get in weapon range in under a minute? If so that maps too small; but realistically thats not likely is it?

Or maybe when the... Loyalty thing comes in (sic) friendly fire loses you loyalty points, double if done in the first minute.

Naaah what am I sayin' gonna lie down now...
