and this is why my brother is getting a computer built by himself with parts ive picked out and paid for out of his alowance and birthday and christmas money (roughly $350-$400) with another $300 being kicked in by me and probly another $150-$200 being put in by my mom and our grandparents to be a decent rig. Im supplying the guidence hes going to do the actual building of it in a couple weeks when i go and pick him up for the summer. hes getting an asus M5a99fx mobo with a slightly older Phenom2 x4 965BE(got it for $80 off newweg on sale) 8 gigs of ram a $50 case and i believe we are going the rout of a 7850 posibly a 7870 for vid card. the point of the build was stay resably lower cost but with very good components and needing minimal upgrading in the next couple years.

not a bad little setup from the sounds of it

I'd spring for the 7870 over the 7850. The inclusion of Crysis 3 in the games package basically makes it a free upgrade.

Nah. The 7850 will overclock in Catalyst (no other utilities or heat issues) to 7870 speeds without any trouble at all. If you use MSI or what have you, it can easily go well beyond 7870 numbers, but that requires more advanced knowledge. Just buy a 7850 and max it's clock and ram speeds in Catalyst's Overdrive section and you'll meet/beat 7870 benchies. The 7850, due to it's enormous overclocking heatroom, is one of the best bang-for-your-buck cards on the market right now.

With that said, I've still got a Gigabyte GTX460 1GB OC Edition sitting on a shelf (I had a pair in SLI, swapped them out for my own 7850), which will run MWO on high settings effortlessly. I'd take $50 for it.

Incidentally, I'm running a Phenom 2 965BE myself. If you get an aftermarket air cooler, they'll handily run from 3.8 to 4ghz - makes them an awesome processor for gaming if you want to keep costs low. I've had mine for... 5 years? 6? Running 24/7 at 4.0ghz on air without the slightest hiccup.

Only things left to purchase is the mobo and vid card. We will be doing that shortly after I pick him up. I forgot to mention this is going to be his first computer. Curently he has been using my grandmas 5 year old walmart special. So he realy needed a new system that he could call his own. The fun part is going to be getting him into mwo on better than 3fps for the first time ever. Yes we tried everything we could think of to get that walmart pile to run I even OC ed it but it wasnt enuf.

Edit. What air cooler would you suggest?

I've got a shiny, 8800GTS I can sell you.

It's only 6 years old.
Spoiler

I have one of those, but I tore the front panel open and put an extra fan.

I also fixed it in the oven.

Id go with a tried tested and true Coolermaster Hyper 212+ EVO or similar, decent price, solid performance, not much to break or go wrong(only needs vacuum cleaner love every few months).http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&Tpk=coolermaster%20hyper%20212%20evo&IsVirtualParent=1
