I use PPC, medium lasers, UAC5 and ac20 the most often. Seems to me that long range weapons usually make pretty poor short range weapons.

I'm such a sucker for the unpopular weapons like the PLL and LBX. I don't know why, they just work for me.
For my Cata-3d i've been flopping around between PPC's LL's PLL's LBX-10's, UAC5's with an assortment of ML's or machine guns to fill in the extra tonnage's. Lately I've switched out PCC's for PLL's as my goto weapons, and an LBX or dual LL's with MG's with their spiffy sound effects as secondary weapons. Even between the LL's or LBX 10's i've been running the LBX more because Heat management with the LL's was getting me killed.
Other than that, I don't have any concrete rationalization for using the lousy weapons. Only that they're fun and they seems to mesh well with my play style.
That's not to say i wouldn't mind a LBX buff. I would LOVE to see a damage increase per pellet. maybe even increase the spread to even out the damage buff, I don't know. But there needs to be more of an incentive to get in close with a shotgun other than increased crit chance.

AC20: No, but only because I feel they are way over the top and make the game trivial.
AC10: No. Way too hot for the weight/damage.
AC5: Rarely. Decent range for harassment and keeping snipers pinned.
AC2: No. lol why does this weapon exist?
LBX10: Often. Tiny heat signature. 1000km viable range for harassment, deadly up close if the crit gods are in your favor, most well balanced/frustrating weapon.
Machine Gun: Often. Love them now, use them all the time.
Flamer: Often. I've had people ask me to please delete my 5K spider for how annoying it can be with a flamer.
Gauss: No. Another OP weapon I think makes the game trivial thus I refuse to use it.
LRMs: Rarely. They are in a good place for casual use and boating them does make them a lethal threat.
SRMs: Often. Damage is a bit poor but what can you do? The crits to internals are worth it.
SSRMs: No I don't use them due to my playstyle (low ping ******** like myself prefer to aim) but I think they are fine.
Energy Weapons: Rarely. Pretty much all I ever use are MLs and SLs.
LLs are also in a good place.
PPCs are OP but solid and still need slight tweaking with the dispersion and fire rate.
ER lasers are a waste unless you build around them due to the heat and how easy it is to find a brawl.
Pulse anything is worthless atm with how high TTK is due to how few shots you get before overheating.

@ Arkathan you might wish to note UAC/5 is one of the longest range weapons in the game. Only gauss and AC/2 are longer.
@ Everyone saying there is no flamer listed, as stated in my OP post, you can only have 20 questions in a Poll, even condensing LRMs and SRMs to a single weapon each that still leaves 21 so I left Flamer out.
I personally find ERLL to be in a fairly good place, the real problem with it is ERPPC is sooo much better and due to lasers not reducing heat till after they finish firing (1 second duration) they are really fairly similar on heat.

My go to weapons are Large Lasers and Gauss Rifles. Medium lasers are almost always used as a light weight secondary weapon option and are probably the most useful weapon in the game. SRMs and Streaks also kinda fill that roll whenever you have missile slots available but not alot of free weight. I also love the LRM 15 when I can afford the weight to mount one.
The PPC, AC/10 and medium Pulse Laser can definately be useful as well.
ER PPCs generate too much heat in most cases unless you really want to specialize your mechs roll. Same goes for Large Pulse Lasers with the addition of the fact they are too short range for too little gain in damage.
The rest are situational.

weapons i often use, for various reasons: MLAS, LLAS, LPLS,ER-PPC, AC2, AC5, AC10, Gauss, SSRM, LRM
Not very often: UAC5, LB10-X, SRM, MPLS
the rest:barely to never, also for various reasons.

Clarifications
Energy Weapons:
- Flamer: I never use them, range is too short and overheat function is not good enough.
- Small Laser: I never use, range is too short.
- Medium Laser: I use a lot in groups of 3-4 as backups for LRM carriers or to supplement short range configurations, with the exception of the HBK-4P
- Large Laser: I don't use them much as I find the PPC to be a better investment in most situations.
- Small Pulse: Never use them, far too heavy and hot for such a minimal increase in damage.
- Medium Pulse: see small pulse.
- Large Pulse: Between the beam duration and cool down time it is essential a short range PPC, why bother?
- ER-Large: Infrequently. I prefer PPC's.
- PPC/ER-PPC: I <3 PPC's even when they were hotter and required more lead time I loved using them.
- Machine Guns: never use them, requires too much time on target for my taste.
- AC/2: I use these a lot on the Jaegermech but not on anything else.
- AC/5: I almost never use them, ac/2 and uac/5 have better DPS.
- AC/10: Almost never use it, for 2 more tons you can mount the AC/20, or +3 Tons for the Gauss Rifle
- AC/20: I use this a lot, its one of the best short range weapons.
- Gauss Rifle: I use this a lot, it combines well with long range energy options.
- LRMs: 15's and 20's + Artemis only, 5's and 10's are too easily counterd by AMS.
- SRMs: 4's and 6's with Artemis only, spread is horrible without.
- SSRM-2's: Frequently, and I'm not going to lie its because they are auto-hit weapons and the damage still concentrates on the CT of nearly every mech due to where the missiles impact and hit box designs.
