If MWO launches in later summer (after the second patch in September), then it will launch with the same number of mechs that MW4 (21) launched with.

MW4 Launch Mechs:

Argus
Atlas
Awesome
Cougar
Raven
Osiris
Bushwacker
Chimera
Hellspawn
Shadow Cat
Uziel
Catapult
Loki
Mad Cat
Nova Cat
Thanatos
Thor
Vulture
Daishi
Mad Cat Mk II
Mauler

MWO Mechs:

Flea
Commando
Spider
Jenner
Raven
Cicaida
Hunchback
Trebuchet
Centurion
Blackjack
Dragon
Quickdraw
Catapult
Cataphract
Jagermech
Orion
Victor
Awesome
Stalker
Highlander
Atlas

If mech releases are stepped up to 2 a month after the first of the year, then in 1 year after launch we will have another 21 mechs. All of the mechs ever released for the MW4 series, with its expansions is 44.

In another year we will have another 24 mechs... two years after launch we will have 65 mechs. 21 mechs more than MW4 ever gave us.

This is what makes the iterative model such a great model for games. There is basically no upper limit to what MWO will have to offer.

Give me the iterative model any day.

So you just ignore the different variants in MWO? With these you are already at 78 right now.

These are the same chassis. But because of the different hardpoint loadout and specials, you have still different mechs.

So you have 78 different chassis in MWO right now, and maybe over 100 on release.

Edit: yes, i know you said this is a good point for MWO. I just want to show its even far more in MWO compared to MW4.
But still. both are not compareable. MW4 was a singleplayer game with multiplayer option. MWO is a pure multiplayer game without any campain.

wow that is actually very impressive.

For some reason in my memory MW4 had a huge selection of mechs lol. It just felt bigger than MWO. might have been because of the fluff and atmosphere the campaign gave it.

You can't say there are 78 different chassis when chassis means the frame all the components are put in. It is also not at all a different mech just because they limited which weapons can go where differently. So no, without a doubt there are not 78 different chassis or mechs.

MW4 had Urban Mech. MWO FAIL.

On a more serious note: Content is one thing, a fully enjoyable balanced game on the other hand is another. Yeah, having more Mechs is cool, but the balance of the game has been a rollercoaster of a ride.

Although, I'm not saying MW4 was fully balanced by a long shot (it had some things balanced ok). I only played MW4 Single-Player, and MW3 and MW:LL Multiplayer. If MWO took all of what DID work for aspects of past Mech Warrior games, then it could shine.

But when they try out certain things to be "different" from other Mech games, like silly LB-X crit blasters, rather than taking what did work for LB-X already, or the entire ECM fiasco, it just really annoys me.

Just official releases. MekTek added the other mechs much later, by the time all the MekTek mechs were added we will still have more than they put in, as the last one was ~ 9 years after the initial release of MW4.

The MekTek guys were the ones that added the Urbanmech. MW4 never officially had the Urbie.

ETA: after the two year mark we will have roughly the same number of mechs that were in the MekTek version after the release of MP2.

They have stated several times that 2 per month is the plan.

I think that was in relation to 1 hero 1 new mech per month I could be wrong though.
Could you cite your source?

Likely the reason they aren't doing this now is so we'll have a decent selection of Clan mechs when they release them, rather than release them one by one.

i think for the clans to be a playable faction. it needs to have at least 4 mechs. so they are probably working on those right now.

i heard from russ in a podacast they already had one done (and that was the news a few months ago)

probably a timberwolf. lol if they had to make 1 clan mech what else would it be?

But will the Timberwolf look like this beautiful work of art:

Posted Image

Or will it be Mad-Ca... Box... what it is Mech?

Posted Image

Or Madcat Lego Bricks Edition?

Tune in later this year, to find out!

My Google powers have failed me. Even with having read several instances of the release schedule being moved to 2 a month I cannot find the statement, and no Hero mechs were not counted as one of the two chassis.

Alex iglesias's Alpha strike cover.

Posted Image

For a preview of the style going into MWO timberwolf.

But ultimately the final concept art is decided by Dennis i think.

Basically Alex follows any of the 3050 Upgrade Artwork for his concepts. The above definitely sticks with the upgraded Technical Readout artwork.

because the Alpha Strike cover is done for Catalyst games. it has to be extra accurate.

He has more leeway when he does his concept art for MWO. The developers also have some leeway when picking from his designs.

Even though all of the variants of a chassis are grouped together, the end result is much greater variety available at launch.
