1 lrm 5 isn't worth it... period.
Unless you are carrying a minimum of 30 lrms with Artemis I wouldn't even bother equipping them.

But multiple LRM-5's without Artemis are worth it. A bunch of little launchers are lighter than 1 big launcher. They do create a bit more heat, however. For example on the Centurion 9A you have a single LRM-10 (5 tons), but you can remove it and put in a pair of LRM-5's (2 tons each, 4 tons) and use the extra ton saved for more ammo or armor.
You just have to have the hardpoints to spare, but if you do, then you can save a few tons that way, and get a higher rate of fire as well.
However, that doesn't work when you have Artemis as each launcher gets 1 ton heavier, negating any weight you would have saved.
