We can only speculate on their decision process. The factors involved lead them to choose CE3 over Unreal3. Im not familiar enough with the different engines to judge which is better for large masses but, judging between what we have now and the Unreal trailer, I think they made the right choice between the two. The felt strongly enough about it to take on a unfamiliar engine (since most of the devs at the time were mostly unreal guys) and also adopt the agile scrum dev method. I think theyve done a damn good job all things considered.. especially with the other factors we dont even know about.
tl:dr MWO looks good to me. What other engine would handle 100 ton mechs and look and play better than what they have now?
