A well written first post; with good points. And a good reply from Staff. Win. Having been in from almost the start I agree with both the original post and the reply. A working game for all is key. But it would be marvelous to have more interactive terrain and put the fear back into large mechs. I suspect that this will work better once we have a weight-balance mechanism in, thus making heavies rarer in game.

+1 I concur.

All good ideas and yes, the engine currently doesnt account for large masses in motion. The devs have posted (Ive forgotten who) that CE3 was made for human sized avatars so it may be that the engine wont be able to approach these. I hope they can pull it off. These all need to be added to created immersion.

And yes, I also thoroughly enjoy MWO and think PGi have something great here

So use an engine made specifically for human sizes for a game with massive 100 ton mechs. i wonder which genius voted on that.

We can only speculate on their decision process. The factors involved lead them to choose CE3 over Unreal3. Im not familiar enough with the different engines to judge which is better for large masses but, judging between what we have now and the Unreal trailer, I think they made the right choice between the two. The felt strongly enough about it to take on a unfamiliar engine (since most of the devs at the time were mostly unreal guys) and also adopt the agile scrum dev method. I think theyve done a damn good job all things considered.. especially with the other factors we dont even know about.

tl:dr MWO looks good to me. What other engine would handle 100 ton mechs and look and play better than what they have now?
