It would be really neat to have some kind of ability/equipment where you have a squad of Battle Armor riding on your hull, and they hop off and annoy the crap out of your enemy. They wouldn't really be "pets" in that you have to control them. Just point and "shoot" (order them to attack) at close range. Then they hop off and swarm, shooting with small lasers/SRMs. Once the enemy is destroyed, any surviving members hop back onto your mech.

Now, this could either be equipment, taking up tonnage/slots, or it could be a commander ability, having them hot drop into an area. They would basically patrol a square on the map and harass any enemies that walk in there.

Because, what BattleTech needs is pets.

Hey, it's a canon tactic.

By the Clans, maybe. And they don't "exist" yet.

Besides, by the time of the invasion, they didn't use that tactic nearly as much.

It would be neat for this to be available, but one can only wonder in what ways it could go awry. Just imagine everyone on a team carrying them around! Endless swarms of them, clogging your exhaust vents and gumming up the joints! Though I suppose it'd give us something more important to do with machineguns.

I'd be willing to give it a try!

Easy, fix gents. IS gets their arty to play with, Clans get swarms of AI Elementals. If you thought Zergs were bad, just watch them crazy 'mentals climb up and eat your *** out *g*

Of course, battle armor takes an Omnimech to act as a "taxi" for them, so even if they existed now, none of the 12 current 'Mechs could carry them. I wouldn't mind seeing them show up later as a "commander" option, but honestly BA squads are a little outside the reach of what a player should have direct control of.

(plus, they serve as very cheap extra armor for many designs...by taking hits if you're carrying one and a gun manages to shoot that location. Oops!)

I always thought of BA as a sort of 'Mech flack jacket. Put a unit of BA on your 'Mech and you got a bit more armor. ^^

well lest see.. In JAn is will be 3050.. The CLans show up around March? The IS might have it's own Battle Armor in what? 2 more years? Not something I think they are all that concerned with since that haven't even launched the game yet

The first Inner Sphere BA is the Grey Death armors in 3051, with Inner Sphere Standard suits showing in 3052 for more widespread use. But to me, it's like aerospace and vehicles and suchlike- secondary at best to 'Mech stuff.
