PGI: We are not looking to add Melee to MWO at this time.
PGI announced this a few months ago, but I do not think that things have changed.

If your assault mech going 48 km/h is running into 35 ton knee high mech what do you think happens? You are on your face (Yeah that's how it worked back in the beta... Atlas bowling was super fun with Jenner.)

If a scout mech collides with an assault or a heavy the light should be instantly legged.

How unusual behaviour on this forums.

Not all light 'Mechs were designed as scout 'Mechs. Many of them are combat-oriented 'Mechs.
Anyway, any 'Mech in MWO is - and must be - capable of both scouting and fighting.
If you wish to complain that light 'Mechs are OP and should be nerfed, the right thread is here: Light Mechs Are Screwed Up

But sure all mechs could have some kind of melee kick/ punch for front sector, but again I'm not so sure assault turrets would like much when I would come and punch their knee bend.

MWO does not have stability at all, which is a mixed bag since that'd be how you make some weapons more effective and attractive
but it's entirely unfun to be made to sit out the match because a RAC2 wont stop hammering you

Thats exactly why melee was a thing in tabletop to begin with. Light mechs should be flattened by heavies let alone assaults.

And this is precisely why it wouldn't work in MWO as it is now: TTK is already high enough, both through higher alphas and no RNG in targeting components, that having to slowly pick yourself off the ground while you're getting components blown off left and right would just be oppressively unfun. Do you want people to never pilot Lights again? This kind of idea's a great way to make that happen.

So move your 'Mech a bit, so you are a more difficult target for that enemy RAC-2. Also, that enemy RAC will soon jam anyway.

Don't need knockdown though I feel your pain. It's not the damage light can do hugging your legs that's so annoying, it's that some assaults can't even SEE THEM once they get in close. (Executioner)
All that needs to be done is tweak the damage dealt by collisions against enemy mechs based upon weight difference. Collision damage already exists in the game so it probably wouldn't be much work and it wouldn't even need to do much damage. All it would take is an assault mech being able to inflict about 5 damage upon a light's arm or torso per collision to make lights think twice about getting in that close.
