Give 'em time. Meanwhile there's a huge amount of community support waiting for him if he ever does pick it up again.

It's funny, but you can tell the low-end of the ELO bracket when you start seeing the name calling and what not.

To be honest, I've snapped at a couple players that weren't doing anything or even worse: Shooting through teammates and missing the enemy. The level of frustration builds pretty freak'n high. More so when they start adding smack-talk. The worst though is having a 10+ game losing streak because the majority of the players you have dropped with are off doing their own thing and not working as a team or continually trashing someone. This builds up pretty freaking bad and it gets harder to contain lashing out. For the most part, you can tell the difference between a noob and a ******, myself being the later.

As the above members have stated, and it can not be stressed enough, get on team speak, find a group of players that you work well with, and stick it back to the pug nutz that did you wrong!

Ever since I joined up with the BWC, its been a completely different game!

Good Luck to ya!

I've only played a handful of matches. At the end of one match I look up at the Chat and see a couple of Players saying things like "Longmire, hit 'n'".

People were trying to help me.

Looking at the key commands I see that 'n' is used for Nightvision. -Yup, that would have been useful.

The problem?

If they were telling me to turn my nightvision on then this had to mean I was being spectated. Uh oh..

So people were watching me stumble about in the dark running full-tilt into walls, getting stuck in corners and otherwise act and move about like a headless spastic chicken co tributing absolutely nothing to his team. :L

These guys at least were offering advice when they could have been throwing insults.

Good for them.

Should someone try sending iNanook a message, just asking to read the replies? (If someone does, say so, as iNanook probably doesn't want a dozen emails...)

I dunno whats worse, the guys that are hostile to you for failing or the ones that are hostile to you for succeeding. Had a guy having himself a fit last night cause I was murdering a stalker through its rear CT instead of its rear RT XD

Dying in the first few minutes of a battle then complaining because someone isn't killing a enemy the way you would have, too pro.

Indeed? Now, I'm pretty sure when I play with my friends in the 1st RDR, it's putting me in a higher Elo bracket than what I'd see otherwise. I was wondering if I was pulling them to a lower Elo bracket in the process. Fortunately, we don't see that much name-calling either way.

Last time I got into an "argument" with somebody it was pretty much "Your face is stupid." :)

Sad to hear. You just ran into a few bad apples.

Start the match by telling your team that you are new, a lot of the time someone will speak up and give you a hand or just stick together.

If you haven't completed 25 matches yet then you are still using your cadet ELO and being matched with other new players. You may find more unsavory folk down there depending on how serious or childish they are about the game.

So I just patched, then logged in. I look a min or two to familiarized myself with the controls then started to charge to where I thought the battle was, I was wrong so I turned and headed in the right direction. Now I admit I am a noob, but being repeatably called a fail ******** noob, among other personal attacks, then I stated that I was sorry, I was new and I was told I should just go kill myself if I was this bad. If it was only one person I might give it another go, but it was 5-6 people from both teams. I especially loved my dead team mates telling the other team my map location, that was the cherry on top. If just one person would have had to guts to say lay off or if it was only 1-2 people then I'd give it another go, but more than 25% of the entire map gives me a good idea about what to expect if I try to lean to play.

Sad, I loved Battletech back in the day. :)

Sadly some of the general users are not nice people. My experience is that in MWO, this is kinda rare. As already stated, being in a unit does limit your exposure to those jerks. Here is the Ronin Legion public TeamSpeak server. Feel free to drop on by and hang with us. We enjoy talking Battletech, doing drops, helping folks out, and keeping a positive attitude.

Well, having just created my account, to see this right at the top of the forums is pretty discouraging... the behavior specified by the OP is bad enough on its' own, but none of the devs have responded to this, and all you people can say is that a new player should go download something else to enjoy the game?? I think I'm outta here before I spend a single dime......

Unfortunately the nature of F2P games is that the bottom rungs get loaded up with scum. Like others said, the ELO system may make it even worse. People get frustrated when they aren't doing well, but in my experience very, very few go as far as to taunting new players. Unfortunately, bad experiences are memorable and they ruin the experience (damn you, Slaserback who tried to TK me 2 days ago!!).

If I may make a suggestion to new players, it pays a lot to state to your teammates at the start of the match, "Hey guys, I'm new to the game, can I stick with you?" Even a short message alerts them that while you are new, you are willing to learn and take suggestions, and can vastly improve the dynamic of the group. I've dropped into groups where one or two players send this message and the veterans are always more than happy to give pointers. After all, this is a team game and what better way than to help your teammates help you?

As others suggested, you may do well by joining a group. My group Skye Rangers have a big player base and even a dedicated training group for newer players.

Most multiplayer games simply are better with teamspeak (or any of its competitors). Even in Planetside 2, which has built-in VOIP, my outfit there uses teamspeak!

Your enjoyment of the game is what you make of it.

He did have 1 bad experience which is a shame, but it is online gaming. Thick skin required usually.

Once again though, that is not the norm. Most people are friendly and willing to help. Just let your team know that you are new.

New players are welcome on the Steiner Teamspeak Server. We actually have the best community. I'm not very nice, but everyone else usually is.

Trust me, I am an experienced player and I still get these imbeciles who think they are G0d and can insult other players. Reported them but nothing done. Just ignore them and move on.

I'm not in a house, but I tend to only play with people in houses. You get better teams, help learning the game, and support rather than just getting trolled by randoms.

Great news is most of the people in the same match that were heckling were also new or otherwise bad players themselves, thanks to the ELO system that shoves new players all together.

Though I advise you to take a moment to click on the little mech icon to the left of Launch but to the right of all the tabs, and then "Testing Grounds" for any future familiarizing.

Provided you have teamspeak 3 (free to download at http://www.teamspeak.com ) and enjoy the company of men (and the occasional woman) in their late 20s to early 50s, the Zhi-zhu Mercenary Corporation (Website) takes on guests from time to time. Relaxed atmosphere, international group, home of one of the most eager to help forum lurkers around (myself), some beer (in my case coffee), bad humor, no drama and the occasional youtube video or screenshots of awesomeness.

Lights, mediums, heavies, assaults; drive what you prefer and arm it how you like -- personally I enjoy slapping on flamers and machines; brown (damn filter) yourself laughing if you like but you'd be amazed what could be pulled out of my mechs using them!

We can help ease you into the game at the very least, give you a banner to fight with at the most.

Some vids.

Playful 4-man. (Very funny especially toward the end. I happen to be using the current trial 4X Cataphract.)

Coordinated 4-man. (2 Jagermechs for direct fire support, 1 stalker for indirect lrm fire support, and 1 Atlas to tank for us).

Fully organized 8-man (Zhizhu Merc Corp. versus Skye Rangers 10th Regiment)

I love that you posted a vid showing my fellow Skye Rangers (even if I'm from a completely different unit within the Skye Rangers, being a member of the Snord's Irregulars myself). I must now go watch the vid.

Hmm. Tried to send a pm since he's not answering the post (maybe he can't find it? God knows these forums aren't the easiest to navigate). Unfortunately, PM's not working.

Throw me an invite in game if you want iNanook. I'm on 8-11cst
