I only see "offensive" behavior in a handful of matches.

Doesn't excuse it, but don't give up on us yet :D

So I just patched, then logged in. I look a min or two to familiarized myself with the controls then started to charge to where I thought the battle was, I was wrong so I turned and headed in the right direction. Now I admit I am a noob, but being repeatably called a fail ******** noob, among other personal attacks, then I stated that I was sorry, I was new and I was told I should just go kill myself if I was this bad. If it was only one person I might give it another go, but it was 5-6 people from both teams. I especially loved my dead team mates telling the other team my map location, that was the cherry on top. If just one person would have had to guts to say lay off or if it was only 1-2 people then I'd give it another go, but more than 25% of the entire map gives me a good idea about what to expect if I try to lean to play.

Sad, I loved Battletech back in the day. :D

Sound like you got a team that was taking a break from call of duty. Most matches are friendly. Ill play with you and help you out.

An entire thread of 58+ civil and freindly posts vs 2+ losers in one match. Obviously that match was not represenative of the community.
How unfortunate that they have not logged back in to see.

OP logged off and never returned 2 min after OP! Perhaps it is time to lock this thread and move along :D

Wow, you ran into quite the nasty bunch. I'm going to restate what the last two pages have been about. Just find a group of people to drop with, I personally started with a couple of friends who dropped with me, after that I joined up with House Davion and have no regrets since. The nice thing about dropping in groups is that you will generally have a good averaged out Elo to cause you to almost never run into idiots like that.

Indeed... He's had a forum account for 6 months and made one post.
Having made that post, he hasn't logged into the forum since.
He could still be playing the game, but I'm skeptical.

If he had the forum account since January, does the post mean he took another 6 months to actually try the game?
...Or had he been playing all that time, and quit because of one incident of name-calling, when 6 months of playing should show that such rudeness is rare?

Why am I still putting this effort into guessing his thoughts, when he hasn't returned to talk about it? I can relate to the original poster because I've been the subject of similar trash talk, but if he rage quit over some name calling we might just have to chalk it up as "his loss".

2 words 'friendly fire' practice on the trolls)
this my 2nd day playing, i first set up controls, try them in the trial lands, then test them in combat, rinse repeat.i still have a few control variations i havent even tried but will.i have fun even when i die horribly so i dont care what anyones going to say, just shrug it off anjd die horribly again, its not like theres a huge penalty for losing like other games..

^ You are correct, sir. The main difference between winning and losing is that, if you win, every mech you shot that was destroyed later counts as an assist...and is worth more C-BIlls than a kill.

I think you usually get twice as many C-Bills for winning, but losing still gets you money, XP, and GXP.

Poor Jazz.

Btw... Jan 2012 is a lot more than 6 months. Apparently the original poster is someone who signed up when MWO was first starting development within the game engine.

My goof...
I saw "Jan" and read the year wrong. Therefore, the guy had the account for well over a year before he made the post.
The next line down on his profile says his last activity was 2 minutes after he made his one post, so no, he isn't reading this thread at all.
It seems more and more like his loss.

No, it isn't. This kind of behavior is par for the course--the course being the "elite" player groups who get their jollies by dropping into pick-up games when they should be forming their own 8 man teams and dropping against same.

The sooner PGI separates these cretins by putting them into queues with other like-minded "mechwarriors", the better.

I see this time after time: 2x4man groups pitted against a pick up group. It speaks volumes about PGI's "matchmaker", which currently is a just a bad joke.

That was an extreme example. I bet if you did the same thing 25 more times, the results from the team wouldn't be so harsh, especially if you tell the group your new.

I was trying to play with a Joystick my first 10 matches and could really even move, because I was unaccustomed to the controls, and didn't get that harsh of treatment.

You just got unlucky, stick with the game it will get better.

Just yesterday:

I was playing in my STK 3H, missile boat, of course. I got 3 kills and managed to get to the end without much damage. Another team mate was capping and I was seeking the 2 last players.
Randomly 2 guys started flaming me, making fun of my skills, stating that I had ADD for not choosing a target(those who play boats know how hard is to maintain a lock, even with decay), and many more annoying insults.
This was getting quite abusive so I snapped and said "you're both dead so ****". Mature I know, NEVER do this, just ignore. In the end of the battle, we won, and they still mocked my damage(around 300-ish), like it means **** for boats(missile, no less).

Now I'm a decent player, a good teamplayer and just out of the blue I get those nice guys. It really spoils the atmosphere, but hey I know how to ignore, might as well do it, and advice you to do the same. (wish I could report players WHILE playing the game)
