I have never laughed so hard as the other day when my buddy and I were playing and he asks "Hey Dude, how did you turn on 3rd person view again?" to which I responded "Alt+F4". 2 members of the enemy team immediately disconnected. Everyone starts laughing in chat. And my buddy says "Oh, that worked, thanks". Then another enemy disconnected. The game was 8v5 without ever firing a shot. My buddy demanded that 3 kills be added to his score for that round. I agree. :P I was wiping tears man, it was the best ever.

It is a cruel, cruel world.... :P

There are lots of people out there who forget that they were once new, like we all were, and who blame everyone else for their own failings, especially new players. That's easier for them than to acknowledge their own failings. Relax. You can still love Battletech; just ignore them, do your best, and meet them on the field of battle with your head held high. We can't fix the morons, so it is best to ignore them.

You, my good sir, are clearly friends with a Master Troll. It's somewhat rare to see trolls reach that level. I applaud his skills, even as I despite that joke, as it only punishes computer illeterate people, which is sadly a lot of people.

Even better are the people that think they know everything, try to tell you how to play, and then are completely dumbfounded and amazed when you start shooting two enemies at the same time and quickly destroy them.

"Dude, don't go out there you don't stand a chance. Go cap."
"Turn around you freakin' moron!"
"We can't afford to lose turn back!"
*Uses torso to shoot one slow enemy with autocannons and uses arms to shoot another faster enemy off to the side. Both die within a second of each other.*
"O_O How'd you do that!?"

"I R :)"

When folks are nice and polite and helpful and such, it just does not quite "stick out in your mind" as much as when folks are jerks.

So it is easy to have a bad experience spoil a hundred fair to good experiences.

Yet another reason most players should learn to not be jerks, but I've given up hope on that.

Behold, even below ELOhell, the joys of Trisomy-level ELO. Where people are not only bad at the game, but also mentally challenged. Seriously, I call ********. No one that has spent more than a day playing on a computer would fall for that.

You'd be surprised.

It isn't even so much "too dumb to know better."

Most of us operate on a kind of auto-pilot, throughout most of our lives, and while intelligent enough to know better, often fail to remember that we know better.

Its essentially one of those brain teasers:

1. Spell STOP.
2. How many letters are in STOP?
3. What color is a STOP sign?
4. What does a green light mean?

90% of people will answer question 4 as "STOP" having not even processed the words that entered their ears.

So people that "fall for" the ALT-F4 trick are not always dumb (and, surprise surprise, you can in fact operate a PC for years and never have to use that shortcut...)

They are just on autopilot :)

Bad luck :| In the few games I've seen people behave like that I'll ask them to relax or quit if they can't... there's no reason to sit and abuse people over a videogame.

Shift, mate. Alt+F4 is the ages old "kill that program" windows command to terminate hung programs :)

All I can say is, try it bro.

Just ask in all chat how to enable 3rd person view. Someone will most certainly say "Alt+F4", just say "Yea, alt+F4 worked, thanks" and watch the disconnects rain down.
Sometimes they're on your team tho, so just be careful, or maybe warn your team ahead of time.

Best was when some dead guy called, "Fail team."
Response: "Well then, why did YOU die first?"

I didn't forget that I was once new. I just don't understand why after a year i'm being put on teams with players asking how to target and set weapon groups. Come on matchmaker...

MWO is turning me into a jerk.

Yep. Been using computers for 20 years, and it never came up. My computer nerd friends never mentioned it. No computer admin ever mentioned it. Why they hell would anyone need to know?

In fact, I think I went 20 years without touching that row of keys, until I someone told me how to check my frame rate in this game.

No, you are doing that yourself ;)

I feel your pain; I'm apparently in the ELO bracket where we are required to wear helmets, if you know what I mean.

But I have never been a jerk about it.

Once in a great while I see some foul lines in chat, folks being jerks to newer players or just in general, but most matches little is said beyond some "Good Games" at the end.
