Well, I am glad the OP decided to come back! You have a recourse, its simple and all it requires is a pen and paper, or use of notepad. I write down the handle of all those who decide that certain kinds or remarks, language and behavior are somehow required or wanted and need to be put into chat. I write there names down and if i see them again, and they berate, or harass a player, I report them, that simple. The best way to deal with a troll is to waste there time and/or money (personally i love screwing them out of there money). PGI will ban there account if they continue that kind of behavior meaning anything they have bought is now thrown down the drain.

I understand that the occasional player might burst with frustration, or say some things that seem mean, but in jest. But doing it constantly and doing it to several players over many games is just plain messed up. Ill be the first to admit, I have gotten frustrated at players before. But I have never insulted anyone, usually i try to give pointers. But on the flip side, sometimes new players get offended by the offering of help and advicem, and you find yourself being insulted but a supposed 14 year old know it all. You just have to take it all in stride. Pick and choose your battles man, no point if trying to fight em all. Keep the fighting inside your mech. Get better, get on TS, get back online and kick there nancy skirt wearing butts. And after your done doing that you can rub there silly nose in it like the dogs they are.

Oh yeah it goes both ways. I will occasionally type helpful hints - "%playername%, LRM's do no damage under 180 meters."

Usually this is met with silence. Occasionally, with a thank you. Rarely, with expletives and musings on the questionable nature of my parentage, or theories as to the sexual proclivity of my mother.

Some people are just rotten, going from how they behave on the internet.

Ok, I'll admit it. I fell for the Alt-F4 trick back in CB, although my trolls were a little more creative. There were supposedly a series of external views which could be accessed by Alt+F2-F6. I'd like to think that if I'd seen Alt-F4 I'd have recognized it... :D I've been fortunate enough here not to run into any real grief like I did way back when I was playing the original Ghost Recon (on dial-up!)

also... once one or two people are mean

it becomes easy for all the other pugs to pile on

join a community (like everyone is suggesting)

a few minutes chatting on teamspeak can save you hours of frustration at a time

So, this thread isn't serving as a new player guide, but ore of a discussion about our in-game experiences and stuff. I'll move it down to the Barracks for general Pilot's chatter about combat drops.

So I just patched, then logged in. I look a min or two to familiarized myself with the controls then started to charge to where I thought the battle was, I was wrong so I turned and headed in the right direction. Now I admit I am a noob, but being repeatably called a fail ******** noob, among other personal attacks, then I stated that I was sorry, I was new and I was told I should just go kill myself if I was this bad. If it was only one person I might give it another go, but it was 5-6 people from both teams. I especially loved my dead team mates telling the other team my map location, that was the cherry on top. If just one person would have had to guts to say lay off or if it was only 1-2 people then I'd give it another go, but more than 25% of the entire map gives me a good idea about what to expect if I try to lean to play.

Sad, I loved Battletech back in the day. :D

On behalf of the MWO community, I'd like to apologize for what you experienced. This is ridiculous. I've seen such behavior, but it is horrible luck to experience it en masse like that. The proper way to deal with someone making mistakes is to gently and politely offer advice, not scream at them and help the enemy kill them. Please give the game another chance, overall, this is a great community.

The Current ELO system we have now doesn't help either.

If your new player or a low skill player, the group finder will put you in a team with High skill players to balance the over all team rating.

This Maximises the chance of beginner players encountering elitist attitude players instead of putting all similar skills together on both teams.

This also makes it frustrating for the skilled players as the team seems to be letting them down. All in all very bad matchmaking system atm.

This is simply not true, and based on ridiculously far fetched assumptions. The "elite" players are the most professional and quietest ones. The "elitist" are loudmouthed idiots who stand no chance in-game against the former.

I never see such things, and frankly if I never had played LoL before I wouldn't believe him at all.

2 days ago: I did see a 600m mlas-ing guy the other day, I simply told him %"playername% the medlas doesnt reach 600m". No one else raged at him.

1 day ago: caustic, a guy was walking on the moutain spines next to it while we were walking in 3 line, he got splattered in seconds, as he was the only one exposed as the enemy crested from crater. Someone asked him "%playername% are you new?" he said "yes, im trying to figure out where is a good spot to LRM from", I told him, "just follow us closely until you do" while my other mates gave them other specific advice, as Im not an lrm guy myself. No one raged at him at all.

I'm one of the silent ones, both because I'm not good enough at MW or typing to respond when the enemy is within 180m of my mech, and also because I figured that the helping commentators didn't notice that my cat was also packing 2xSRM6. Neither did that charging Awesome with the weakened CT. Poor fella thought he was gonna bag a noob LRM boat.

I'm still learning, and I've got a long way to go, but moments like that are the fuel that keeps you going when the obnoxious troll-warriors are carping on your screw-ups. I hope the OP sticks with it, and remembers how it is to be a rookie when he gets frustrated later down the road. That's really the only way this thing gets solved.
