How dare you add a new alpine. One occurs often enough to be terrible.

What do you mean? I have personally found quite a bit of map variety when I play. I don't see Alpine/Tourmaline any more often than 80% of the games that I enter...

No way. The 800m view range limit of NV (and thermal, I suppose) is limiting enough on River City Night. On Alpine or Tourmaline, it'd make mechs shrouded at range by ECM nearly undetectable by any means. That doesn't sound fun to me.

If they must add new night maps, I'll repeat this maxim I read a while back in a different post: more night maps like Frozen City Night? Yes. More night maps like River City Night? No.

I think it's a great idea actually.
Scouts get to actually scout and a strategy beyond sniping from across the map would have to be utilized.

or is thinking to much to ask?

Huh? Frozen city night is pretty much just a new skybox.

Yes, but it's a pretty skybox. I'll take that to pitch darkness any day.

Moar everything.

More night, more snow, more bad weather... to ALL maps.

How about a Caustic version where the volcano in the middle has erupted and there is ash and lava raining down from the sky IN THE NIGHT!

ANY of the maps with a storm would be amazing Lightning flashes, squalls of rain, the drumming sound on the head of your mech. Night vision is also far less useful in a storm... awesome. Maybe the rain could also actually help dissipate heat in the mechs.

Imagine, an Awesome rolling through a torrent of rain, steam pouring off it as the rain vaporized where it struck the glowing hull of the fat metal beast... Awesome.

Tourmaline and Alpine are too big for night. And I think one Alpine is as much of that map as we can stomach, it's definitely not a community favourite. An alternative Tourmaline could be nice though, as its a well-designed and complex map. Restricted vision of some sort on a map that size though is an issue.

Tourmaline MIGHT be ok for night because the design is pretty good, but Alpine would be a nightmare.

Overall, if they make large night boards (such as Alpine), they need to restore the range to thermal vision. If they restore the range to thermal vision, PPCs and Gauss builds will be even better (which is already a sore spot in here).

Alpine night could be OK in that Frozen city night isn't an abomination. Add some weird northern lights type effects to it and reduce the amount of hills that people can climb.

I find Night in Tourmaline perfect. there are alot of covers, our vision is limited, its all base our ability to discern the enemy and react to it. gonna be alot of brawling for this.. I just get exited by the very though. being tense and you don't know if the enemy mech is around.

Regarding Night at Alpine?

well i do find it interesting provided that PGI fix this "mech climbs better then monkey"
and other thing.. I can image if want to find the enemy mech but its soo dark .. just send a ppc on a ridge and suddenly you notice a shadow from the sparks from ppc.. Then you get a temporary idea where the mech is. beside we don't really know how effective nightvision is at long distance and as well for heatvisions.

A Tourmaline night map with a much cooler ambient temperature would be really awesome, so long as the visibility was decent. My ideal night maps wouldn't require the use of those awful vision modes.

In a couple of other games I've played recently, the game produces random weather and day/night cycle. Any given match you play could be in the dead of night, the middle of a rainstorm, dense fog, the morning when the sun is coming up, the evening when its setting, or any point or combination in between. But for some reason, I think that type of quality work is out of PGI's reach.
