The issue is not the mech but the tactics used. Almost all players have a tendancy to run directly at the enemy at the fastest possible speed and of course mediums are going to go down fast when they are the first mechs to make contact with the enemy, especially when they have left their Assaults 500-800m behind them unable to support.

Mediums got to stay with the pack and then when the battle is engaged, use their superior mobility to hammer distracted enemy mechs. Also even through a medium might not be much faster than a heavy, they can still turn and piviot faster due to being lighter and this gives them an advantage many don't seem to see.

As far as the MM is concerned you have to ask yourself if the issue is the MM or the fact that not many people play mediums because they are generally precieved as inferior. I mean if no one is playing them, then obviously we are only going to mostly see light, heavies and assaults in matches.

Its more than tactics though. A good part of what makes meds seem like a weaker choice is the strong alpha/ pinpoint accuracy.

I never lead the pack in any meds I choose to pilot. I usually stay behind the front line then try to engage from an open flank. Or I just shadow assaults and act like a pocket wingman for him.

That works fine until a high alpha mech takes a part off at a time or simply cores you in an alpha or two. Many such pilots target meds first to start the slide for the other team by reducing their numbers quickly.

It used to be that a med could sweep in, do damage, take a couple of hits and work their way out and repeat. Now a days that damage taken is a lot heavier and more costly.

Just my 2 cents.

Mediums are tricky in the current game enviroment, but still useful and fun to play.

I like my Swayback Hunch and Founders Tripple Deuce Hunch. The Centurion Zombie still can be good (check out Cattra's videos). Also, the Treb can be really fast.

The Mediums are tricky because they aren't big enough to take advantage of the high Alpha build meta, and they aren't Light mech fast. Still, they are good in the right hands and fun to play IMO.

The only real reason to run a medium competitively is if you're playing with drop weight limitations. Then its pretty much Centbombs or Blackjacks (which actually do their jobs quite well. Blackjacks feel right).

It's probably the 16 hour work shift speaking, but I half hope with 12 mans incoming a spot will develop for meds to slip into comfortably. Maybe as midfield defense backing up the first line and half backing base defense.

In the mean time I'm going to learn the assault class role and work on mastering Centurians. Lights are last on my list to master. I'm not twitch enough to handle them correctly.

Unless they give us weight restrictions mediums will be even worse in 12s. More potential Assaults and Heavies to field against you means you will die that much faster.

I play mediums most of the time still. They are definitely not trash tier, and are perfectly viable with the right pilot. When SRMs come back, expect to see my CN9-A ripping you a new one with regularity. Until then, it's BJs and HBKs.

For sale, low low price of 10 mil for 8 medium mechs: Well used and mostly suitable for collecting dust.

3 Trebuchet varients
3 Hunchback varients (incl founders)
1 Cicada
1 Centurian

All are basic cannon fodder suitable for use as pinatas by assorted assaults and heavy mechs. Also great for use as course pylons for light mechs running around at high speeds.

Standard upgrades of DHS, Endo, and balanced (as possible) weapons loadouts. Blood in the cockpits are thrown in at no extra cost.

Each has only had only 1 pilot owner who is currently moving up to the Heavy and Assault meta. PUG only so no unit crest to have to remove or paint over.

Offers of popcorn and Yoohoo will be entertained. Will trade all for the right offer of a Battlemaster or Thug with low hours.

contact him on Craigs List under Kaarde@TongueinCheeck.com

I'll take the lot. You clearly don't know how to pilot medium mechs.

You obviously missed a little clue in the e-mail address.

I do well in meds. I can average 200-500 damage a match on average, though my kills are low.
I've played meds 90 percent of the time since I signed on in CB.

For the most part I wrote this post with my last 10 or so matches in mind where the average drop was 1-2 assaults, 1 med (me) and the balance heavies( Jagger's and Quickdraw for the most part).

It's a trend I first noticed a while ago and have been watching spread to where meds are as rare as a flamer on an ATLAS.

Edit:changed Orion to QuickDraw. Armyof1 discovered that I'm really the new Doctor. Lol

I'll take the Cicada and one of the Hunchbacks. Preferably with a dummy pilot in the cockpit. I need some new sandbacks for my Stalker so I can boost my e-peen.

Bah, was looking too far ahead I guess. I meant QuickDraw. Though I have a bay reserved for the Orion when it appears.

I love my mediums. Mainly my Wang and my Cent A, though I do break out the 4P and HBK G every now and then.

It's a bad match if I don't do close to 400 damage or more.

This is my Centurion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Centurion is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Centurion, without me, is useless. Without my Centurion, I am useless. I must fire my Centurion true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

I really love playing with my Centurions. Sure I have more time in Assaults, but that's only because I played more medium mechs before the stats.

I think I love my Hunch a bit more than you love your Cents:

HUNCHBACK HBK-4SP / Matches Played: 700 / Wins: 343 / Losses: 355 / Ratio: .97 / Kills: 450 / Deaths:408 / Ratio: 1.1 / Damage Done: 186.325 / XP Earned: 508,846 / Time Played: 2 days 14:45:45

Even through the SRM nerf and hit registration next to none I stuck with my Hunchback. To think this was after they released stats I know I probably have over 1000 matches in the guy.

Cripes, how many engines have you worn out in that thing? Not to mention the amount of fuzzy dice that get worn out hanging on the rear view monitor.

Your parts salesman must be loving you. Lol
