8 Mans, Where Did You All Go.

Not competitive, just a bunch of us from different companies looking for a good time.
We have noticed that nobody is on. What gives?
Why do you think the 8 man scene is dead?
If your looking for a good old fashion 8 man fight for a good time, we are running them almost everyday from 5-9 EST.

If you do them you mostly run into 'competitive' 8-mans loaded with 6 PPC Stalkers, AC-20 Jagers and alike. If you want to win at least 50% of those you gotta bring same bullcrap mechs and do the camping PPC sniper crap or AC-20 zerg rush crap. Balanced team vs balanced team matches happen very rare and even if they do give you pleasure and fun they occur like 1 out of 10-15 drops.
Until weapons balancing is done properly and matchmaker is fixed so its actually doing its job or until we can do 'private' drops and play vs exact people we want to play against I'd stay away from 8-mans. PGI is yet to do something to improve this game for units, so far all they've done is done for PUGs, we'll wait and see what happens, when it happens and if it happens.

I'm not criticising anyone who doesn't like the 8-man game as it is now btw, it does sound annoying- only the people who were perfectly happy to use the same cheese tactics against pugs for quick money and stats.

PS its up to people like me and you in the forums to actually get people together and make 8 man games fun again. Get your units together and drop! I think I'm going to make a post just for finding 8 mans in the meta section, unless you guys can think of a more appropriate place.
Lets make this game fun again!

More realistically, the playerbase has to step up and make a change. I

Pretty much this.
FWLM went from having a hundred or so on TS to, oh, maybe 20. Nobody does 8-mans that I am aware of. The civil war tournament tore us apart, my unit has at least 10 guys that simply vanished after the last infinitely frustrating round.
"Have fun with that."
I'm just a pub-star now.

Ya, so much fun.
Not to mention those 2 mixed teams all were mainly running PPCs/Guass as well, but at least when there was a 2 PPC mech it was a raven not a stalker!

The FWLM "Marik Civil War" tournament we were running. Joe Luck and Stingr4y put in near infinite amounts of work to make it all happen, and I respect what they were going for.
But playing in the 8v8 queue is, for most folks, an exercise in frustration right now, for a variety of reasons.

2) PGI's change in direction to more arcade and absolutely no sim.
3) Community Warfare? "Soon!TM"
4) 3pv

People will try to blame ECM, PPCs, pop tarting, ELO. What it really comes down to is that PGI made it so ridiculously difficult to assemble and maintain a group of 8 people that the population for 8-man team play could never make it to critical mass and has been dying a slow death ever since.

Say what you want to say to PGI. You're bringing this game down with your own ridiculous "pro" builds. As long as there's not a "bro code" to prevent teams from excessive meta-abusing, I don't see this situation changing.

The 8man dynamic was all but useless to us. Maybe not back when we had 20+ people and a clan running, but when people stopped playing, that was it.

Games like planetside 2 allow us to run a group with any number of players but requiring exactly 8 is why there are so few groups as few corps want to waste time getting exactly 8 players together.
PGI just needs to kill the 8-man system, add private games, abandon the flawed Elo system and adjust matchmaker to match teams with an equal size group (+/-1) on each team with exact weight class matching when possible. If you drop with 7 players for example you should get a team on the other side made up of a group with 6, 7 or 8 players.
