Speculation is the name of the game... I remember before beta... ALL we had was speculation to talk about. Here in the Clan section however, speculation is still the name of the game... we still know nothing at all.

If you guys are in the Clans threads, you should at least use the Clan names for everything but the Cauldron Born.

The mech the OP is talking about is the "Timberwolf".

no, its now the grumpykitty :P the klanners don't get special treatment. prepare to suffer side torso blowout before your cockpit can even see over a short hill.

I am not a huge fan of the Timber Wolf. Do not get me wrong, I will have one in my mechbay, but with luck I will have a lot more to master before it.

Would it not be interesting to have a single mech, easy loadout swipping, and just one tree to master. No variants, just 3x the cost to get a point bought in the pilot lab mech trees. Omnimechs.

I'd give it extra slots for it's pods they wouldn't have much room in them slot wise though since I think the biggest launchers its variants have are either LRM20s or pairs of (s)SRM6s.

I would like to see the sholder pods be a seperate damage location, with low armour value based on the launcher or weapon pod installed. The crits are the same and part of torso, if the launcher is blown, you receive damage to the torso section.

Early on in beta I remember a short time where you would see a small arrow pointing to where the selected weapon was... I really only noticed on the swayback. Always hoped they would bring it back... something like the shadowhawk, where you can have 3 ballistic in the torso, if you could select which customization slot your weapon was occupying. Could be interesting, and a step to the idea of omni, where you select the pod location on your chassis to install the selected weapon pod

People do know that Clan XL engines stay in the CT of the mech and blowing up the side torsos will not destroy the mech, right?

Part of the problem with the Timberwolf is the side-torso, bigger part of the problem is the massive CT.
Remember how upset everyone was about the Kintaro?
The Timberwolf has had that exact issue in Mech:2 3 AND 4.
MWO is only gonna make that issue worse - as shown by the Kintaro.

Actually, that isn't right at all. :P

Clan XL Engines do extend into the side-torsi, but only by two criticals rather than three criticals like the IS XL Engines.

As a result, a Clan XL Engine (in BT, at least) could survive the destruction of one side-torso (albeit with the 'Mech being subject to heat (and movement?) penalties), while destroying both side-torsi (which would typically require more damage and time than simply coring the 'Mech from (the same direction) in the first place) would still kill even a Clan XL Engine.

I will say again.

The Timberwolf is one of the best 'Mechs in centuries of 'Mech warfare.

It has the speed of a medium, a better armor than most heavies and the weaponry of an Assault.
